The only way to run a double DIN in the 88-91 Civic and have it look anything close to correct, is to do the Crx dash swap.
The Civic dash does not allow any room for a double din, the Crx has the space.

I was thinking of custom designing the dash if I can't find one for it maybe fiberglassing it so I can have a center console also

Unless you have experience with doing that sort of work, I wouldn't waste my time and money.
Only because 9/10, those turn out like absolute trash.
You'd be farther ahead, money and time wise, looking for a Crx dash, it bolts right in.

88-91 Crx dash will physically bolt right up, it's the wiring that differs.
Unless you use your hatch dash harness with the Crx dash you should have no problem.
Plus the civic climate control is different as well, it's mechanical, whereas the Crx is electric.
