Thought I was gonna have to fork out £50 at the dealership to get this reset, but the tips on this page worked a treat. MES very easy to locate just to the left of the fuse box (1999 5dr Civic), and the paper-clip solution worked first time! Thanks for the tip!

First of all, thanks for such a great write-up,
I have a 95 Honda Civic.I just had work done on my steering system (they said rack and pinion broke and needed to be replaced). Right after that I noticed that the SRS light remained on. They also completely removed the HORN ( yes I do not have a HORN in my car). I was travelling at that time and I could not ask those guys to fix these as I had to leave the Town next day. SRS:- I followed the instructions in this write-up and got till it blinked twice but after that it stayed on. Any Idea where the problem might be. I am really scared to go to a mechanic as I have no Idea how much is it gonna cost. HORN:- I have been looking to install the horn my self bit I could not find any thing that would help. Diagrams in manual are too technical for me. I would greatly appreciate if someone could guide me to a similar write-up on installing a HORN from scratch. I really need help as I can not afford a big expense right now and I have never needed my car more than "now".Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Dude, this sounds like an electrical issue. Chances are the horn itself is still there behind the grill under the hood. Check to see if the guys who fitted your new steering column have actually reconnected the cabling for your horn and drivers airbag. Disconnect your battery negative lead, then remove the top and bottom covers behind the steering wheel (just where the light and blinker controls are) and make sure all cables are connected properly. If there's nothing obvious, you might need to take out the airbag itself and check the terminals are connected at the hub of your steering wheel, this is normally where the horn and SRS contacts are found. Make sure you disconnect the battery at least 3 minutes before removing the airbag, just incase it inflates in error. Good luck, and hope this helps a bit.

Will the trick work with a car that had the system deployed and an aftermarket wheel?

One of the best how-tos ever. I have the Helms manual and it doesn't even mention this.
To the thread originator: Many thanks.. you have saved me a bunch of frustration. I've been working on Hondas for over 10 years and never encountered this situation until this month. I had to do this to two different cars. If you don't mind though I have two questions: 1. Where did find out how to do this? 2. What exactly does this process do to the SRS system? Ie: resets the main SRS computer?? |

Hi,
Just signed up after searching the net for an SRS fix on a '98 Hatchback. Will try this weekend to resolve the issue. Great site, some very good information here! We have 3 Hondas at our house & have been steady Honda fans since '84. Wife drives an '05 Accord EXL-V6, #1 son has a '95 Hatch & #2 son has a '98 Hatch. Each of the two Civics are kept at stock. The boys are university students & reliability is the keynote here. The Accord is also stock. We've had numerous Accords & couple Odysseys over the years. My avatar may give it away but my own hobby is a '71 Buick Skylark. I've had it since '02 & restored it back to original GM showroom condition. 5.7l (350-4V) is the original engine & rebuilt it 2 years ago. How many of you here can say you have an original & working 8-track in your car ?? I frequent www.V8Buick.com quite a bit. Looks like I'll be frequenting this site as well. Cheers. |
