I already had told my Honda Rep here and they are trying to get me a goodwill as our warranty is only 2 years and 40,000 km so I'm not covered anymore by the warranty, I do hope Honda comes thru and fix my car at no expense,if you have any tips on how I can work this with American Honda just in case my dealer does not help me, I would really appreciate any help!!

the only thing i can think of is like if they say they have never heard of it or something, then you can catch them in a lie and say you know that its not the first time, then ask for a manager (politely)

got my civic back from the dealer last night -- runs better and more smoothly than the day we drove it off the lot. none of that rattling at idle, and noticeably more responsive. thanks for the advice and well-wishes, and good luck to others going thru the same thing.

Question High Mileage 2006 Civic - just found out cracked block

I've just been notified that my civic has a crack in the engine block. Purchased July 2006 and over 120K. Yes, I realize the mileage is high but that is no excuse for a crack in the block. All service and oil changes have been done at the dealer. Of course, the warrany is void - 5 years or 100K.

Honda Canada is "reviewing" my request for assistance which is why I have been searching on the internet. I noticed most of the posts are American - has there been any incidence of this in Canada?

What did US Honda do? Complete coverage or just partial?:

R18's, made in America, lol, sorry but the quality is crap i think of Honda, but only cause it's made in America, just goes to show that we have careless manufacturing in our own country!

Si's for everyone then, motor made in Japan, and of better quality, and by people who really care about perfection in all they do!

in japan, the company one works for is like an extended family, and people actually really care about the work they do. sure wages are important, but it's even more important to do a good job. there is honor and respect in performing one's duty well.

it seems the predominant attitude here in the US is one akin to "i just work here and couldn't give a rat's ass."

i don't follow, that's like saying they designed the mold to have a crack in it so people would get pissed of and demand another motor or other service's for free, which would cost them more money in the long run, and drive them into the ground due to losing money due to their known mistake at time of manufacturing.

Now what since does that make, lol.

Quality comes down to making sure it was done right the first time, which obviously it wasn't, or many people wouldn't be in the situation they are now.

i didnt say it was designed well, and they did it on purpose. its a fairly new engine and maybe its just got a weak spot, or maybe the metal they used wasnt as strong as it was supposed to be. who knows

Unhappy Under 40,000 2006 w/cracked block

Just found out yesterday that I have a cracked block. Its covered by the 60,000 mile powertrain warrenty but its going to take 2 weeks to repair and I have no transportation! Thank goodness it happened now or I understand it would have been a $7,000 repair. I was told it was a defect but I don't understand a defect without a recall.

This is on a 2006 Honda Civic and I have driven it less than 40,000 miles. I'm the original owner and have made sure all of the regular maintenance was performed.

The battery in this car also had to be replaced about a month ago.

I'm wondering if 2006 was a bad year???

Welcome to clubcivic hardy! Thank you for registering and sharing your experience with us. I'm still unaware of any TSBs regarding this issue. I'm also surprised Honda didn't offer you a loaner car... Last time I had my Honda in for warranty work (about 8 years ago), they loaned me an Accord during my downtime.

welcome, glad its getting taken care of. the do usually give you a loaner for warranty work might wanna check into that alittle more.

it does seem like its all in 06 models, but i dont see them changing the engine..although they did do a recall on my waterpump. where was the block cracked at?

Wow this sucks! I feel soo bad for you guys. Specially the ones that arent getting anything!!

Remember, its not Honda that doesnt want to help you, its the manager that doesnt want to help you. As you see some had good warranty results and others didnt.
