The GTR is also longer and wider than the Z. Not to mention the better suspension geometry and body construction. I'm sure the body on the GTR is much more rigid than that of the Z. The GTR is also more aerodynamic.
Why handicap yourself? You're going to want to start with the best platform you have. And while the GTR has some issues, i don't think it means they should just abandon the platform. If anything it is just going to help. As technology, knowledge, and experience is gained through racing, you'll see it trickle back into the street GTR.
And the two or three things most people have latched onto would change or need to change anyway. The motor, transmission, and rear end are all going to be purpose built for the race car. Why is anyone surprised that they aren't just throwing in motor from the road car?
