Default how to test if a ecu is working

I have a sohc in my hatch right now so basically everything is stock non-vtec. I'm about to go buy a b16a2 ecu off some dude tomorrow and was wondering how do i test to see if the ecu is working. Can I just disconnect my ecu and plug the b16a2 ecu to see if it works? I need it for my project! Help me out guys!

As long as it has the same plug style, then yea. Dont run the engine to long tho, b/c a B16a2 ECU wont like a y7 engine.
