Default New guy from Ontario Canada

Hello all. I just noticed this site today even though I have owned my 2002 bare bones basic civic with 205,000 klm's from new. Last week I had the dealer replace the timing belt which set me back 800 dollars. This week i notice the ride is getting bad and making a lot of noise. Well you guessed it, I need new struts that is going to set me back 2000 dollars to install. Needless to say I'm going to do my own work which is what brought me to this site.I'm trying to get all the info I can collect by reading this and other sites so I may need to ask the odd question as I go. I did notice that a few people like to modify there cars, is there a market for used parts I could get cheaper and are still good parts.

Hey welcome to the site. Im from ontario myself, windsor to be exact.

You can easily do struts yourself, there are a few how to's on here on how to change suspension. Buying good after market suspension parts and installing them yourself will be under $800. Are you interested in modding your car at all?

As for finding used parts, people often sell the stock parts their aftermarket parts replace. People also tend to part cars out, so you can buy anything you want or need from them. You just have to keep an eye out for them.

You can learn just about anything you need/want to know from using the search bar. Once again, welcome :)

Wow that was quick. Thanks. As for the pics, I'm not sure I even have a picture, it really is just a bone stock car with all original parts, except for the tires of course. I'll see if I have one though because I am a bit curious now. As for modding it, oh no please don't put that in my head, that's all I need is one more hobby to spend my money on. You have got me thinking about searching Kijiji or wondering over to the wreckers, I hope that's not a bad word. Anyways, I've got some work to do.

If all you need is struts, you can purchase brand new factory replacements for your car for under $200, rent a spring compressor from your local auto parts store and call it a day. It's a 1 to 2 hour job.

$200 sounds a lot better than $2000. I was going tomorrow to the auto parts store to check the prices and expected to pay a bit more so that sounds good. Although, being in Canada, even with the dollar at par I will still pay a bit more then you would in the states but that still sounds good. As for the spring compressor the local Canadian tire store rents them out for free. I've borrowed one several years ago for a van I owned.
