Thats what Steve from H Motors told me. I believe that he told me that this engine was the latest one they had gotten in. Im assuming they checked the mileage before they pulled the engine. I guess he is telling me the truth?? I was just going by what he said. It also is an OBD2 engine and they have to be 96+ dont they?

nicee and clean man.. did it come with a trans? just wondering.... good luck on your build.

No sure didnt. I think Im going to buy a New OEM Type R one I have found on Ebay. I think it would cost me a little bit more but I think it would be worth the extra money to have a NEW transmission. I mean you just dont know how hard/mistreated the used trannys could have been ran.

Thanks people for the moral!!

Yeah it was the cheapest I could find with it being as good of shape as it was in. I figured that it would be a little bit more expensive if I bought the NEW transmission but its worth it.

Thanks guys for the support and positive feedback

if you are building it i would have bought a used one for a lot cheaper. that one is mint as hell.

if you tell me your hp goals i will help you with the proper setup, i have a built gsr myself. reason i say this is bc you had mentioned getting an eagle crank, and some headwork which isnt necessary...just trying to save you some money.

Thanks for the help. I decided to not go with a Eagle crank becuase I read that they are already forged. I may just have a really good machine shop knife edge it. yeah I was surprised at the motor when I recieved it...Didnt know it was as clean as it is. But I think I got a great deal on it. It will make me a very nice engine once I get it done. Thanks again

Where would I start by building my own turbo kit? I checked on a Turbonetics one..called Turbonetics today and they told me it is discontinued...I looked up a Greddy kit and from what I hear, its not worth the $$...So I dont know what to do. Just rying to weigh out my options. Thanks

just piece together all of your own components. look around www.homemadeturbo.com and you can find out everything you need, and then just buy each thing how you need it so its all custom. they do mostly junkyard setups but you will still find out what components are needed to build a kit. im almost finished building mine

what are your HP goals?

I would love to have 350 -400HP. I know its alot but I think it would be worth it. Its not like Im wanting 7-800 for a complete drag car...haha. i just want a VERYfast street car that will NOT be driven everyday but it will be street legal. Time is not an issue either. I want to get it done asap but I WILL take my time, get the RIGHT parts and hopefully have a very mean street car.

It doesnt matter really... He could have gotten a 200k mile GSR with shot rings... At least I would have purchased a cheap GSR with shot rings... Youre rebuilding it... Doesnt really matter what the current condition of the internals is...

Edit: Also nice buy on the Victor X I have the same ITM... If youre looking for a badass TB get the BDL 70mm... V

Thanks for the info. I just ordered my Edelbrock 65mm throttle body. It says it was designed to match the Victor X and its 25% bigger than stock. I am doing my research and buying parts that work well with each other. Cant wait to start putting this stuff on!!

alright, well mine is built for 400-450 so i suggest a very similar build as mine. key component is having a very good tune...detonation is your worst nightmare. i have cp 9:1 pistons that are .020 oversized (perfect for keeping stock sleeves without boring them too much, but it allows you to hone it enough to have perfect cylinder walls. eagle h beam rods, new oil and water pump, timing belt, king bearings, micropolished and balanced crank.

thats really all you need to get you to your goals. hell, im even keeping the stock IM. if you want to have extra peace of mind, go with an alcohol/water/methanol injection kit to help reduce detonation. but as i said, a great tune is key.

Since I am putting this GSR in my 96 DX civic, when it comes time to get new exhaust, I order a kit for an 96-00 EX civic dont I? I will just have to get another CAT Converter for a EX I believe...Just trying to get some TRUE info from people who has already done this. Just confirming my research. Thanks

Im still deciding on what turbo kit to go with. Ive heard mixed thoughts on the Drag kits..Thanks though. Im open to any kits or ideas

stealthy
10-28-2007, 04:14 PM
two suggestions:

1. put together your own turbo kit, that way you get everything the way you want and need. thats what im doing, and im about 85% done with it. if you need help, ask me and/or check out www.homemadeturbo.com to familiarize yourself with what you need.

2. have a custom made downpipe for the manifold and turbo you decide on. i had my ramhorn manifold, 3in downpipe, and dumptube made by synapse motorsports. they had me send my compressor side of my turbo so that everything would fit right, and they also made the downpipe use vband, since thats what my turbo is. but either way you'll want 3in exhaust and idk of any aftermarket exhausts that are of that size

Thanks, I bought it from a company called PMP. They were on Ebay. They said that valve cover would be one of the last ones they do.

why does he need to get rid of it when with all hes doing hes gonna need better spark?
I've never heard of issues when things are done right
I agree, I had one once and it fried my dizzy.

Sounds like you guys didnt install them right.... Because blaster coils are very much useful when the right plugs are used, better wires and correctly gapped. The stock internal coil honda makes is weak and all your doing is supplying the combustion chamber better spark with supplying mods like stated above. There very much useful when high compression turbo or nitrous are used

To the OP

I would love to have 220-250 to the wheels but thats pushing it. I guess a bone stock GSR with 160-170 hp and all the mods with a good tune may get me close to that. The 75 shot of nitrous will definately help. lol I guess we'll see!! Thanks for the comments everyone.

depends on the dyno i guess, mustang dynos tend to read alot lower then true numbers where as dynapacks tend to be very accurate or read a tad higher. It also all depends on the tune.
But dude with that 75 shot alone with proper tune you should be over 260, lol
Lemme put it this way, if your gsr stock doesnt put down 180+ ill be disappointed. Cause think you have a jdm gsr which also has a little more compression then a usdm gsr does. My ls/vtec in which i used stock ls pistons put down 193whp and 152ft-lbs of torque, so either that was an amazing motor or my guy that tunes cars knows what hes doing, haha
Im hoping for 220 with new pistons so i mean you should def be over your number.
Good luck to you tho and def keep us updated

Small update...Just installed my shift light. I think it turned out OK. I still have to get the wires straight and CLEAN UP. Please overlook the photos and the sucky interior. (Its very dirty) Im going to redo it with all new OEM when the engine is done.

1. Popped out my defrost vent from the upper right hand corner of the dash.
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d56/96abcde/DSC_0173.jpg

2. Drew a template on a scrap piece of stainless steel. I used the vent as a guide.

3. Formed the cut out and worked it until I got it to fit the hole as best as possible.
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d56/96abcde/DSC_0170.jpg

4. Lined up the Light, marked the holes and drilled them out. After drilling, a quick test fit.
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d56/96abcde/DSC_0176.jpg

5. Scuffed the base down and primed it with self etching primer. After primer, painted a few coats of semi gloss black.
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d56/96abcde/DSC_0184.jpg

6. My original plan didnt work out...I had to use the vent itself to fasten my freshly made base to the dash. I just drilled 2 small holes in the vent and bolted my base to the vent. Now all I have to do is pop the vent in and there is my base that fits like OEM. I hooked up the 3 wires and tested it out.
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d56/96abcde/DSC_0189.jpg

7. Not only can you change the color of the shift light, but you can set multiple shift points and have a launch point set. (Thats what I bought it) This thing is pretty cool and is very accurate. Heres some pics of the different colors you can choose from.

Well, its kinda hard to tell. Before I hooked up the hose to the end of the filter I removed part of the filter where the air comes through. Ive been running like that for a few weeks now and Im pretty sure I can tell a bit of a difference. It definately feels like it has a bit more power.

Yesterday, I removed my filter completely and just hooked the hose to the end of the pipe and Im not sure. I know its not safe to run without a filter. I just dont think its getting enough air without the filter. I definately reccomend running ram air WITH a filter. Just my .02.

OK everyone, since its fianally starting to feel like spring out, I decided to take some shots of the coupe. Im still very new to image editing. I thought I'd share the only decent shot of the day. This were taken with my Nikon D90 and since I dont have Photoshop, Im forced to edit these with Paint.net. I know this isnt part of the build, but it still shows the new stack (air horn) on the front of the car.

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d56/96abcde/DSC_0085.jpg

Oh and I forgot to mention that Im going to the track tomorrow evening. I want to see if the ram air adds any power and reduces my time any. My best time on the 1/8th mile is 10.9 @ 63 mph. I'll try to find the slip from the run. The car was dynoed @ 103.6 hp. Its basically a bone stock D16Y7 with a CAI, plug wires, plugs, and muffler. I cannot wait to get the GSR finished and see what it will do. Wish me luck everyone!!

He painted his car, my civic, as well as many others. We are in the process of restoring my moms '70 bug which is going to be House of Kolor Kandy Purple. Also, my big bro just bought my dads old 86 silverado. He is planning on bagging it and possibly painting it House of Kolor Kandy Lime. He's not for sure yet.
Its nice having a family who has cars as a hobby.

Hi everyone, thanks for all of the positive feedback. I just wanted to let everyone know the results of the track last Thursday. The ram air definately helped. I know the times are slow, but I now have a new personal best. This is for a bone stock D16Y7 BTW.

The best time I could get before the ram air was a 10.9. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldnt get better than a 10.9. Now Im at a 10.84. No other changes have been made except for the ram air which I am planning on modifying really soon. Here are my times:

Run 1:

Ok, heres what Ive been working on this weekend. Ive been working on getting my nitrous nozzle installed in my ARC intake box. Ive fabbed up a small bracket to hold the nozzle in place. The bracket was just a normal L bracket that came with my ram air kit that I modified.

Keep in mind that this is still in the rough stage. I am doing this so I will not have to drill holes in my new air box. I am going to modify the bottom of the air box (lower filter area) so that I can run my nitrous line and still use my ram air. Once I get started on this I will post pics. For now, here is the area that will have to be modded:
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d56/96abcde/MyARCSuperInductionBox4.jpg

Heres the nozzle and bracket I made:
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d56/96abcde/DSC_0069-1.jpg

Heres roughly what it may look like once its installed. (Changes still need to be made)

Another Update:

I just bought my 750cc RC injectors. Thanks Blue Ridge Motorsports!!

Here are a few teaser shots of the engine. We've got the cams installed this weekend and all thats left is to set the valves and start bolting everything on. I did a quick test fit of some of my parts and I still need to straighten, tighten, and adjust some stuff. I also still need to trim my timing belt cover for the cam gears and other things, but Im really close to being done. I just wish I could finish it before the East Coast Honda Meet.

The intake horn I am so so on, usually I HATE them but on your car it almost fits well hmmmm

I love the front lip, the engine is just se*

Mine is like yours though, just time and more time....

There was a guy on here that asked about the floor, I just did mine and it was easy, scrub it, dry, then paint, make sure you have plenty of flake for it (I ran out) and make sure to use a mask... I am not kidding about the mask, Epoxy is a MO fo! It screwed my sinuses up for days, like migraines afterwords OMG... And you can get the kit at Home Depot or Lowes for about 200 for everything, which 2 kits will do a 2 car garage!

Sorry to thread jack on that didn't mean too!

Thanks man for the feedback. Yeah, the ram air horn is kinda temporary until I can gather everything to make a better one...one that doesnt look like a train horn. lol I would like to build one so that it doesnt grab so much attention.

As for the trunk, Im going with the trunk paint from Eastwood. I think I will get the grey with white speckles. My dad did the trunk of his camaro and it looks REALLY good.

Do you have a build thread? Id like to see if you do.

I do! I built my car a while ago and well it was kinda Ricey... The reason I liked it was because it was clean IMO everyone had body kits that weren't painted, doofy wings that didn't fit... Wheels that were WAY to big... Well some people said the same about mine... but at the time everything fit well... However now I am going a totally new direction :) I am going clean and more of a JDM Look.... So here is the build.... Slow due to funds but going to be insane when it is done!

I got the 15x7 with a +35 offset. (A-Disk) Nothing too aggressive. I'll probably get 195/50 tires to go with them.

The Konig's were a 16x7 with a +40 offset. I had 205/45's on those

Lol I know. First comes love, then come marriage, still no motor in the engine carriage. Oh well, it will come together in time.

It's been two years before I could start on my swap. But you seem to be building yours more gnar than I'm building mine. So kudos! :thumbs up

Small update...I was able to find some great pieces at my local junkyard. I was able to find 90% of all of the plastic trim for my interior. They had a milano red 96-98 EX that had front end damage. I grabbed all the plastic trim, emblems/badges, map light, valve cover and random switches and covers. I spent most of the day today cleaning them. I just need carpet, seats, headliner, and door panels and a dash. I'll try to post pics soon.

Also, the wheels should be here next week!!

OK, here are the pics...The car is a bit dirty, but I could't be any happier with the wheels/tires. The 195/50's ride so much better than the 205/45's. I love these wheels. I'm still working on my photography skills, so bear with me.

Make's the wheels look like 13" steels wrapped in some 195's or something haha but you need more low and it would look amazing!

Yeah lower profile tires would look a little better. But the wheels are sexy ;D

Just wanted to post another update everyone. Ive been busy and just havnt had the money to put it to it. I have recently bought my next project car. I found a 89 CRX Si, all original, and in great shape. I'm already gathering ideas and have been trying to pick out a paint color. Right now, I'm kinda leaning toward the new Lexis IS Matador Red Pearl.

Anywho, I just received my Stage 2 Competition Clutch, MSD Coil Driver, and Hasport axles. I only need my engine harness modified and a new cat. converter to work with my new exhaust. It's fianally coming together! Hopefully, we'll be putting it in very soon. I cant wait to get the old single cam out and have a bit more power.
