i vote for arizona as well, diff variety of girls, PLUS warmer weather for you to work on your car, and believe me, it feels GOOOOOOOOOOOD when your in the school shop with 7823648623478 fans blowing with the garage doors open, sun shining, ooo weee.
one downside, theres alot of thieves out there.

UTI is such a waste of time and a TON of money, and dont listen to them when they say your guarenteed a job. i know first hand automakers DONT WANT UTI GRADS. they want people with a real education, you could get a degree in english, and you would still get hired before a UTI grad.
i have 2 friends that go to UTI IL...one of them is a tool and loves it, the other wishes he would have gone to a real college.
but if you want to spend 9 months hanging out at an all dudes school, where most of the guys are rednecks that WILL fuck with you day in and day out for what you drive, and then at the end of it all be stuck without a job and $20k in debt, go for it!

if you really like arizona, there is a community college out here that dealerships love and will hire you while you go to school. when i graduate i might be doing a program with a ford dealership; they pay for me to go to school , i work at the dealership and when i finish, if im still with them, they give me a 4 grand tool set.

I don't care what anyone says about automotive tech schools YOU GET WHAT YOU PUT IN TO IT. I've been going to Lincoln Tech since September and right off the bat I could tell that the teachers teach you the curriculum and what you do with it is up to you. My advice to you is go to UTI if you want, but stay focused and pay attention and you'll get the most out of it.

my advice would be to NEVER go to school to become an automotive tech. Its a shitty industry that everyone in it ends up hating. It'll also make working on your own car less enjoyable....why ruin a great hobby, and break your back for average pay?

dude, if this is your passion, then go for it. since your uncle owns a dealership, you're probably not hard pressed to seek post-graduation employment, so i say go down to AZ and enjoy the awesome weather.
and yes, it all depends on how good you are and how fortunate you are. my buddy dan's mechanic makes $80/hr ... he's one of the better porsche technicians in southern california.
