Billy.

yea i know the new pic is pretty crappy. im no photography major . i used flat black Plasti-kote engine enamel on the intercooler, and gloss black engine enamel on the piping. the lip is a urethane eGay typeR style that i used duplicolor gloss black spray with about 2 coats of glossy laquer. the car was very dirty when i took the 2nd pic too so dont hate on the dull paint

comments welcome

*edit*
almost forgot to mention; in the 2nd pic you'll notice window visors, benen tow hooks, recaro seats, and a band aid have been added

some authentic ctr's (headlights) would set it off SO nicely.

I like the intercooler before though..

Good choice on swapping over the lip. Intercooler is ok, but I kind of like the flash of the aluminum.

Hey I have one of those..... ^^^... but i think it looks sexy both ways, you're gonna get about half and half on the opinions either way, if i had to choose i would go with black, but that is yet just another opinion.

Billy.
04-28-2008, 09:50 AM
tell you what evan, i'll buy CTR headlights if you do the built b20 block swap

its going to stay this way for a while. i like the blacked out IC and piping, but im still unsure about the lip swap. if i can get some decent paint and clearcoat i will redo the mugen lip and put it back on.... maybe

thanks for all the replies guys!

Is there a way to freshen up the polish on a intercooler? Mine is kinda looking it's age and just want it to shine again.

probably just needs to be cleaned. aluminum shouldnt get aged looking. blast it with some carbeurator cleaner and whipe it down with a rag

Thanks I'll do that. How did you mount yours. Mine was custom built, and in their infinite wisdom didn't include and mounting brackets welded to it.

it had a lip on either end of the top with holes for bolting which i bolted to the underside of the bumper bar with 1/2" bolts

just curious why you guys paint an intercooler?

you're basically insulating a radiator...
and of all colors.. black..

if you'r worried about steath, why not just get a sidemount?

Side mount efficiency = blah... compared to front mount.

& what do you think painting a front mount does?

Billy.

& what do you think painting a front mount does?

its heat dissipating paint made for radiators so it doesnt heat sink. it had no effect on my intake air temp

Basically he said "SHUT THE FUCK UP!" :word:

By the way Mugenkid, did you happen to take pics of the process while you were doing it.

I'm looking to go turbo this year and I would like to know how to paint the IC and FMIC black to cover it up

Thanks in advance

there wasnt anything difficult about it. just make sure you prep the surface of the piping if it is polished so the paint will stick. i taped off the ends of the pipes and the intercooler inlet and outlet so it wouldnt get paint on them b/c it would be a problem when putting the clamps back on. and dont paint it while its on the car  be sure to take everything off and paint it seperately

I like it. Although I think it would look bad ass with the polished FMIC and the black piping; but looks great man.
