How do I get this sucker off? Engine is out of car. I need some sort of pulley holder so I can loosen the bolt. Where can I get one of these?

does it keep turning when you try to loosen it? loosen it with the car in gear and if that does not work have someone hold the brakes.

hold the flywheel with screwdrivers and hope not to break off teeth or you can purchase the pulley holder from honda

No flywheel right now either, I guess I could throw it on and do that, but I'd rather do it the right way. Do you know how much pulley holders run at Honda?

do this put a big thick wrench btw the crank and inside the block if that makes sense so the big wrench stops the crank from moving then get a big breaker bar and get it off thats how i did mine

sorry but idk how much the holder is..all it is is like a 40mm nut with a handle welded onto it.im sure if you could find the right size nut that fits in the hex then you could weld your own handle up

Can you rephrase that;)

I am about to purchase the crank pulley holder from Cornwell for about $50 here in a week or so. But I just had to do it twice this month and just wedged a claw hammer in between the flywheel teeth and the block, kinda rigging it , but it works fine, Might want to have a big breaker bar when you try it, A regular ratchet won't cut it. That thing is supposed to be torqued to 134 ft. pounds, so you are gonna have a little trouble getting it off, but nothing too much.

I'm surprised something through the flywheel teeth into the block will hold a big break bar. The teeth aren't really that deep, I would expect it to slip. I'll try it though.

a chain wrench against the floor? and a big breaker bar wont do the trick?

Yeah never thought of that, I'd have to buy one, but probably cheaper than a pulley holder from Honda
impact gun?
Don't have access to a powerful enough one.

impact gun is the way to go, with no flywheel and the motor out of the car it'll be tough, unless you get a pulley wrench. If you lived close i'd say, hey Alex come on by my shop, i'll get that sucker off. But you live in China.

Yes indeed, I do live in China.
I have a flywheel and put it on. My dad thinks we can make a wood wedge and put it going with the flywheel and jam it into my engine stand, then crank the bolt the other way. Should work, I hope.

yea, i think with enough messing with it, and getting it to hold just right it should, if not, those chain wrenches work great.

Alright I'll try it tonight and let you know if it breaks loose. Then I can do my new water pump, oil pump, and get this thing ready to drop in.

What I did on my civic was, take out the starter and jam a huge crow bar on the flywheel and have a buddy use a big breaker bar on the other side.

I put my flywheel on, and put a steep wedge in my engine stand and flywheel. The wedge stopped the flywheel from moving, and a 4 foot breaker bar took the bolt out with ease. Much easier than I thought it would be.
Now I need to know how to mark my timing belt so I can take it off. I may reuse the same one as it looks brand new, no cracks, splits or anything. Anways, anyone got any tips on how I can mark it so I don't screw up my timing?

the belt doesn't have anything to do with it, You could get some white out and make marks on the cam gears, where the marks are on the pulleys where they are supposed to meet, and maybe on the upper part of the gears so there is white out on the belt and pulley, Line up the crank at top dead center, which means the last mark on the crank lined up with the timing cover, and the cam gears facing up slightly facing forward, you'll see the 2 marks that should be right beside one another. To make sure that you are at TDC instead of bottom dead center you could stick a long screwdriver in the #1 cylinder hole, and when it rises to the top, move the cams into allignment and put on the belt, spin it over and tighten the tensioner after a few turns and make sure there is tension on the belt, then put it back together.

Ok I'm trying to follow what you ^^^ said. My cam gears are in the "up position". Cam gears will be put back up in the "up position" so those don't really need marking. Then the water and oil pump gears should I mark the gear, and the block, and then just line those up when I put the belt back on? I guess it's kind of just common sense, put your lines and make sure the lines line up when you put it back. If you spin the gears around 360 degrees does that change anything though?

no you should have a mark in the shape of an arrow in your oil pump, and a line in the gear that you remove behind the pulley, and as for the head timing, I'm guessing is a single cam so just put the gear in the up position, and line up the marks in the plastic cover, and the line on the cam gear.

you need to start getting creative.
crank pulleys are childs play...
all i used was a socket and a belt off of my friends jeans.

The cam gears will face slightly forward when it says up, so if you look hard enough, you will see a horizontal mark on the gear that needs to be lined up with the adjacent gear.

Alright, I'll take another look at it tomorrow. Basically what I get from reading your replies are put the cam gears in up position, put a line on the gear and plastic cover, and same with the oil pump and water pump gears, and make sure they line up when they go back on.
