February 21st - New Pic

Finally got some new pics of how my car looks now from the outside with the license plate relocated. I've come to like it a little bit more. Tow hook still isn't on. I gotta hammer the factory tow hook back straight and it's been way too cold to do so.

Opinions?

Poll (Simply post yay or nay and say it's for this poll):
Should I put on a license plate relocator?

I have the bumper plugs and plates to lock them in place. Only problem is, the f*** tards who did body work on my car when I got into an accident drilled new holes in the bumper next to the factory holes so I'll have holes anyways.

February 3rd Update!

Push start officially works . Spent 2 hours getting it wired up and installed properly. A lot of the time was spent trying to work in such a small space on my back :x.

Video of the button working and the key working:
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c53/jrow87/th_MVI_0176.jpg (http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c53/jrow87/?action=view&current=MVI_0176.flv)

It even glows red in the dark . Which means I have to find a better spot so it's in a more noticeable spot at night .
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c53/jrow87/IMG_0175.jpg

Pedals are now in too! Here's how my interior looks now (and yes, I know I need new floor mats. But I don't care about them. Way too expensive anyways just for mats):

February 1st Update!
I just installed the Benen 3-Point bar and all I can say is WOW. I always thought a front strut bar wouldn't do anything... Today, I was proved wrong. I mean this is a 3-point as opposed to a 2-point and I was kind of nervous how much it would help. On the drive, I did 35mph on a road and I started swerving the car really hard back and forth and I noticed a lot less chassis twisting from the front. The steering responded better and the car would actually turn instead of sort of have that lag, chassis twist, then turn.

I recommend this bar, or any 3-point for that matter, to any and everyone that is trying to improve handling. I'm glad I ended up keeping this and not selling it .

Original thread

I just felt like adding my collection of pictures and parts for records sake into a build thread :slap: . PS - there are TONS of other pictures I'm leaving out. These are just the ones that let you get the gist of the thread.

Most of the "regulars" on here know me and how long my car stayed stock .

Got my car in May of 04. Don't have any pictures but back in the good ole ricer days, I had a mugen grill and Walmart foggies for the longest time :rolf:.

Got a type r style grill and Honda OEM fog lights eventually. Good ole summer day (early last summer) + hours of work detailing it:

Nothing happened until...for the first time since I got my car 4 years ago.......when BAM. Mugen stype lip, Tokico Illuminas, Eibach Sportlines, Skunk2 RLCA's, Megan Racing 4-2-1 SS 2 piece header, Honda OEM red stitched type r shift boot, and OEM Si sway bar (now sold :( and missed):

Bought a golden eagle tow hook (which is now bent and being replaced with a Benen polished one):
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c53/jrow87/DSC_0229-1.jpg

Then I ordered Honda OEM window visors

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c53/jrow87/DSC_6660.jpg
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c53/jrow87/DSC_6661.jpg

Followed by a Benen 3-Point "Tripod" bar. I ordered it in...October? It's still not in LOL. I just bought the hardware yesterday and it will be going in either tomorrow or Monday :
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c53/jrow87/DSC_0074.jpg

My car stayed parts free from then on until earlier this week when I picked up this from sk8shorty:
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c53/jrow87/IMG_0164.jpg

Should be getting that wired up sometime this week as well.

Also paid for a 99-00 OEM si rust free axle back from MugenKid18 :thumbs up!!!!!

http://www.clubcivic.com/board/attachment.php?attachmentid=22352&d=1229701191

Also ordered a polished Benen rear tow hook . UPS has it now and it should be here this week. Bent my golden eagle one. Yes BENT. Long story short: I tried doing a reverse 180 in a parking lot full of packed snow that was about a foot high. I stopped dead in my tracks after going about a car length into the snow. My buddy pulled me out with his truck but he pulled me out sideways so he wouldn't drag me into the snow and f*** up my front lip and bumper. In doing so, the tow hook bent sideways :(.

Then paypal'd someone for a new part tonight ;). I've been wanting it for as long as I wanted a push-start button which....is almost....as long as I've had my car really. Only 1 person knows and I know (or hope ;)) that he doesn't say a word . It's OEM, black, and oh oh oh so sexy .

I know there's not much to see here... But like I said, my car was stock for FOREVER. A lot of people kept giving me crap, telling me to mod my car already . So here's a thread for ya'll who haven't kept up.

So stay tuned for more parts this week!

No, just the panel /w the push-start button. He forgot to send me the wiring he told me he'd send since I don't know shit about wiring . So I'm waiting on that.

slow and steady

when did you sell ur rear sway bar?

Thanks!.

I got rid of the sway bar...close to a month probably by now. Sold it to Jbuck2kcivic.

I'm fucking PSYCHED for my latest mod though. I'm gonna sleep in my car to appreciate it's beauty.

edit - How could I forget? I also ordered a rust-free 99-00 OEM Si axle back . Compliments of MugenKid18. Should add a nice touch to the back of the car.

You know I've been up for it for a while now. But my engines getting worse meng :rolf:. I could definitely use a new headgasket and oil pan gasket. Maybe I'll bring some beer and some parts with me and we could work on my car .

Oh there's moar in store ;). I'm done buying for a while though. With the new part tonight, axle back, push-start stuff, and rear tow hook, I've already spent WAY more than I wanted to. I got some stuff I'm trying to sell and there's already another sexy part I'm looking into ;).

I paid for it tonight and he said he'll try to get it shipped out monday if he can. So hopefully I (and you guys) will see it by the end of next week. That is if I can keep my mouth shut and not ruin the surprise . I literally will want to sleep in my car just to appreciate it's goodness. Some of you guys will probably go, "oh, it's just that?" but like I said, I've been wanting this for years.

And LOL. Forgot I had these. I literally JUST found these hiding inside my arm rest. I've had them for MONTHS and never installed them because I never had a drill. I'm buying a drill tomorrow with gift cards from Christmas so hopefully they go in along with my benen bar!

Why did you tell me about the screws!!! :x lol. I can imagine you can just buy new screws though and put them in. Or even a bolt / nut.

I'm gonna hold off on bars though for now. I'm against all bars except 3-points and rear sway bars and the only sway bar I want is a CTR + ASR brace combo and that won't happen for a while until I start getting hours back at my jobs. Of course if a particular bar can be argued it helps as much as a 3-point, I might go out of my way to squeeze out a lil bit of money to save for it ;).

Just think, you were trying to sell that Benen bar for the longest time....probably glad you kept it now?

. I've got 90% of the push start wired up. I just need to actually put the panel it in the car now, tap into the ignition wires, and get the grounds on then I should be all set.

Just a word of advice, when you tap into the ignition harness unplug it from the fuseblock and route it over the top of the steering column. Real easy way to hold up thieves if they are trying to cut your ignition. Yeah it won't stop them from stealing your car, but it is just one more layer they have to go through.

JohnS.
02-02-2009, 06:29 PM
That's good thinking. I never thought of that. I have to take the panel off anyways to switch it out with the one with the button in it so it'll at least let me route the shit out of the wires.

I'm not sure if I want to do it tonight. I was going to but I'm still waiting on Evan to get back to me on a question and it's cold as balls out. Not to mention working under the dash is the most pain in the ass thing to do because you have to get on your back and wiggle your head back there. So once I get things figured out, I might just leave it all for tomorrow once I have full day light and a full day ahead of me to do it since I don't have any classes.

These are the pants I wear when I chill in the house all day and don't go anywhere. And those boots are actually K-Mart boots  LOL. Long story short: last summer, I had to do a lot of outdoor work so I went to k-mart first to look for some cheap steal toe boots and found those pair I'm wearing for $40. Bought them, wore them out like crazy within a month, then said "they look good enough, I'll wear them as regular shoes" and bought a 2nd pair later in the year.

Poll: Should I put on a license plate relocator?
(Simply just post "yay for poll" or "nay for poll")

I have the bumper plugs and plates to lock them in place. Only problem is, the fuck tards who did body work on my car when I got into an accident drilled new holes in the bumper next to the factory holes so I'll have holes anyways.

It's about to slow down to pretty much nothing soon lol. Besides the obvious engine and wheels, I'm pretty much happy with how my car is now. The only things left I want are Recaro's and a CTR sway + ASR brace. Seats won't come until WAY later because I can't justify spending $800+ for just seats. Sway bar will hopefully be within a few months.

Other than that, I'll have to come up with ideas for small mods here and there. I got a few in mind but I'm seriously done spending for now.

Yup. The only pita was the OEM steering wheel has torx head screws holding it on (s2k had 10mm nuts). So I had to go buy a 30 to get it out :???:. But I found out you're better off using a torx head socket rather than a screwdriver. I hammered a 24mm onto the end of the screwdriver and it worked :rolf:. Then it's just unplug plugs, remove 19mm nut holding the wheel down, rubber mallet the bitch off (mine was stuck on REALLY hard), and reverse steps with new wheel.

Yeah you can never under estimate those things. When I was at the Fire Academy we did a motor vehicle drills and such. My instructor took the airbag out of the car and rigged it up so he could set it off from a safe distance. He put a 5 gallon bucket ontop of it and I sat on it while he set it off. It shot me about 18' off the ground! He was trying to get across the point of how powerful the damm things are. Scary shit, especially when working on your car

Yeah I've seen video's of that. My friends brother did the same thing except no one sat on the bucket. Dangerous shit. Once I unplugged the SRS plug, I felt fine though. I have the bumper plugs & OEM plates that secure them in place. It's just that I have holes literally drilled into my bumper above the factory bumper holes courtesy of the body shop who did work on my car when I got into an accident.

I put the plate relocator on tonight. I actually kind of like it. I didn't get the bumper plugs in because I really didn't feel like taking my bumper off or trying to reach down inside by just taking my grill off. Fuck the 10 degree weather. I'll get pics tomorrow.

My benen tow hook didn't work out too well :(. When I bent my previous one, it bent the OEM one with it so I gotta hammer it back straight. Otherwise, looks like I'll end up selling the Benen one and rockin no rear tow hook.

Taking bumper plugs off is really easy with a pocket knife. Just slip it between the bumper and plug and slowly pry it towards you. Then it just pops out. I've done it like 20 times and there's not one scratch on my bumper or plugs.

Yeah I've seen a few AP1 and CTR wheels go for closer to the 350-400 mark so I think I got a great deal. Plus mine's not really "mint". I'd say it's 8.5 or 8 out of 10 condition wise.

Long story short: Tried doing a reverse donut in a parking lot (my party house job, my friends parents own it and they have this pretty big parking lot) with a ton of packed snow in the way. Well....I was going about 15mph in reverse, hit the packed snow, stopped dead in my tracks. Friend pulled me out with his truck sideways since I didn't want to be pulled backwards and risk ripping my lip / bumper off and resulted in bending the Golden Eagle hook which slightly bent the factory hook.

when are you getting rims?

JohnS.
03-01-2009, 12:23 PM
Rims aren't too high on my list right now.

These are the parts I want to finish my car completely (big stuff):
- Swap
- A'PEXi WS2
- CTR Rear sway & ASR brace
- Wheels
- Rear disc conversion
- Seats
In that order. But knowing me, when I get the money and since swap costs the most, I'll have the other parts before swap :???:. I'm really going to try to save though. I'm trying to convince myself simple logic: engine runs car, current engine being shitty, save & buy new engine. :rolf:

Stuff I want at some point:
- Cluster
- Shift knob
- Floor mats
- Red door panels / arm rest
- Paint job (from far away like in photoshoots, you can barely tell its all fucked up and chipped to hell)
- New body panels
You get the idea...

Robear Racing.

I've decided I'm gonna paint the lip and type r style grill (eventually wanna get an OEM Si one) myself with just regular dupli color can when the weather gets nice. Then I'm gonna get a front tow hook and put it in the opposite corner of the grill from the license plate. Hopefully that'll complete my front end. Still need to get my rear tow hook and OEM Si axleback on sometime... Weather is starting to warm up though so hopefully soon.

Sorry guys, don't keep track of this thread anymore. I'm || close to just selling everything on my car and putting it back to stock for the money. I'm just tired of it all now. I have no desire for cars anymore. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE driving my car. I love the way it handles, I love how it looks (though it could look 100000x better), etc. I just don't love the game anymore. I know I'll regret selling parts after I get rid of them but it's just not a hobby I can support right now and I'd rather have the money. Still thinking about it though. I listed a few stuff locally as TW to see for interest.

In for updates....

I put in amber bulbs for the climate control and got rid of my cruise control / cluster dimmer switch and replaced them with blank plugs.

My car just rolled 200,000 yesterday. Transmission is sounding worse and worse each week that passes. I can hear a whole already starting to form in the exhaust somewhere. Engine needs new gaskets bad because oil is leaking like it's its job EVERYWHERE. But the only time I would be able to have the car unavailable is a weekend because I go to school and work during the week. Plus I owe a lot of money right now. It's not economically smart for me to consider car modifying as a hobby. I'll gladly get back into it later if I'm still into it and have a steady paycheck. But not right now.

I went to an autocrossing event hosted by SCCA this past Sunday and wow, it looks fun! Sssooo I went on an impulse shopping spree and bought an ASR brace and ITR 23MM rear sway bar. There are supposed to be more local autocross events I think so I'm gonna enter one (hopefully) for fun and see how I do compared to other people.

I'm still on the fence about keeping or selling the car. I don't have the funds to put in a decent swap that I want so I might have to settle with another D-Series which isn't bad. It'll at least let me keep the car and keep enjoying the suspension. We'll see what summer brings as far as money goes.

Oh and after watching the autocross, I've had my Illuminas on 4F/5R and holy shit is it bouncy as fuck  (5/5 is max). But handles much better than lower settings. I can't wait to experience 23mm of goodness.

Why wont any of these endlinks work?
https://www.jhpusa.com/store/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=169

I think passwordjdm sells endlinks too...

ASR ones only work with ASR sway bars...

Don't need adjustability so I don't need / want the blox adjustable ones...

Blox fixed only work with blox bars...

Function 7 doesn't include Civic in their application...

Yeah ramps are definitely less of a pain. And I used ramps because I didn't want to pre-load the endlinks or w/e.

I can't decide if I want wheels & tires or Recaro's as my next purchase... As much as I want the bling bling wheels, I'd REALLY like Recaro's for 1. autocross and 2. more bolster support for general spirited dd driving 3. interior bling.

Thanks guys. I've had some more spirited driving lately and I can't get enough of the handling .

PS - I'd get Rota's or something... You'll never see authentic wheels on my car unless I'm rich lol.

I'm a cheap bastard. I'm honestly not willing to spend over $500 for wheels & tires. MAYBE $600. And I know that's do-able, considering how many deals I see everywhere.

Plus I'm picky. There's not many wheels out there I'd get.

Dang 3 months since the last post....

Bought another one on eBay WITH pig tails for a nice price:
http://s592.photobucket.com/albums/tt5/amej8/DSC00067.jpg

Now where to put it? I mainly wanted it back for the bilng. Without a nice cluster, the dash looks so empty. Plus it compliments the AP1 wheel. I'm starting to sound like Evan :rolf:.

Also, it looks like I'll be keeping my ITR sway bar and ASR brace. About a month ago, I walk out of work to go out to lunch and see something hanging under my car. I look closer and see it's my end link. At first I thought it snapped. But upon closer inspection, the end link ripped the OEM bushing out of the swar bar . I didn't know it could do that considering how much of a BITCH it was to get that fucker into the sway bar. Ordered a bunch of new bushings from Acura just in case it happens again lol.

Gotta get 2 new front tires and after that, I'll try to see if I can enter any autocross type competitions. I want to see how my car can handle with the full suspension setup on and tires that aren't literally close to being bald.

I'm gonna ask my friend to borrow his D70 and I'll try to get some decent updated pics. I forget how to use a DSLR...

JohnS.

I thought I'd update with a few pics.

This is how the ass end looks now (that dent on the bumper is from backing into a truck when I first got the car. Crew cab, extended box, trailer hitch, taking up 2 spots; I was backing up and thought I had room to squeeze into the spot and miscalculated):

Drop it more, front end is still a little too high.

I want to. But I already have Eibach Sportlines which are rated to drop quite a bit. I know I'm already practically riding on the bump stops. I don't want to kill them. I don't know what else I could get that would put me lower. I thought about buying different brand springs for the front to put me lower but that'd fuck up my spring rates. I want something similar to the Sportlines.

And coilovers are out of the question. Can't afford those.

the first ones..
where did u put ur push button start?

i had one on the door side of my driver seat on the bottom.
was pretty hidden and was great for anti theft.

used to get the oil changed and forget to tell the people it had it and they would always call me freakin that my car wouldnt start..

JohnS.
09-13-2009, 11:38 PM
Yeah I really like the 16's. Problem is, they're $150 total more lol. Gotta pay to play though right.

Also, I played with the tire calculator and it seems like 205/45's would be the best bet for me. But I want to make sure 205/45's would fit good on a 7" wide rim and still give me a decent sidewall.

I'm thinking after wheels and before a swap (hopefully next year!), I should invest in a good alarm... My driveway goes in and towards the back of the house about 200 feat and I park all the way in the back. Not to mention my roommates park directly in front of me and diagonal to me so you'd have to weave the car out to steal it lol. Oh and on top of that, my downstairs roommates window is overlooking the driveway and the headrest of the bed is right at the window.

And I haven't put in the push start in yet (at least my new one). I'm thinking about putting it where the mirror adjustment switch is since I never ever ever adjust my mirrors but that's too low. I really want to put it where I put my 2 block-off plates for cruise/cluster dimmer switch but damn Honda for making those holes just a hair too small for the button to fit in.

I'll post pics when they arrive ;).

All I need to finish my exterior is now:
- Front tow hook (yes, for the function, to save my lip and bumper)
- New body panels and paint job
- Rear disc conversion (not really exterior but both cosmetic and function)

Once I get tires for these bad boys, I gotta save for a swap or boost a D. Haven't decided yet. I really want boost.

enycesam
09-14-2009, 06:07 PM
How about swap AND boost ;)

JohnS.
09-14-2009, 06:09 PM
If I were to boost, I'd rep the D for a while. Neither will happen until next summer anywho. I have to plan my finances better and save up some serious money, just in case whether I boost or swap or both, I have money to do something else if something doesn't work out or breaks. I'd ideally like to boost a B18B but my current financial situation can't support it. So we'll see next year.

Oh and ordered a black benen front tow hook :thumbs up. I think that'll add a nice finishing touch to the front end.

I completely forgot I ordered a DIY red fabric kit for my door panels and arm rest. Hate all you want, but I really do like how the red fabric makes the interior pop. I think it'll look nice.

what kind of wheels are those?????????? send me a pm please sir

PM sent as requested.

Just got back from Walmart... Got all the supplies I need to start the red tweed on the door and arm rest tomorrow. I got tomorrow off all day . I'm thinking about going to the western NY Honda-Tech meet but eh... My car isn't anything special and I'd rather spend the time working on my door kit since it's only noon-5.

Actually... I'm so excited from staring at my rims, I might go pull off my arm rest right now and attempt that...

Thanks!

Thanks! Other than what I posted, that's pretty much it. Next is a ton of security.

I just worked on the armrest. It turned out okay. The back is fucked though. I didn't align the arm rest piece onto the piece of tweed properly so I had too much cloth folded over in the front and not enough in the back :(. Oh well. No one ever sits in the back of my car anyways.

What a fucking bitch it is to work with spray adhesive. Caution to those who plan on doing this: DO IT OUTSIDE AND DON'T OVERSPRAY. It's sticky as FUCK. Takes FOREVER to get off you.

I'm too lazy to change it .

I searched a local forum today to check for any reputable shops that would mount tires on rims without scratching em... Found one... Called them... They want $205 for all 4, mounted and balanced . I'll probably pay that but goddamn that's expensive!

You need to find friends with good shops. I get my wheels mounted and balanced (static) for about forty dollars total.

I feel like if I take the red off the arm rest, then the door panels will look out of place. I really want to get red carpet but then I feel like that would be complete overkill lol.

I think either red recaro's or black /w red stitching would help out the arm rest blend in a little better. That'll happen once my credit card is paid off which will be never .

Looks great man!

Thanks!

Went out to get dinner and I'm really liking the interior now :D.

I know people with shops, not very well, but I know them. The problem is, I don't trust them enough with brand new wheels lol.

I already made the appointment. Tires are getting mounted and balanced wednesday morning. They even put them on the car at no additional cost :thumbs up. I'll snap some pics on the way home somewhere.

ya thats ridiculously expensive..
when i had my spoons and my racing harts mounted i told them i wanted to be right there and for them to use lots of goop and be very very very fucking careful..
had no problems. i mean i know they mess up sometimes, but u wanna be there to make sure they use the stick on weights and put them on the backside...

but i think the chances of them messing up are nil to none..

It is ridiculously expensive, but this shop is ridiculously reputable lol. They have a NICE NICE shop with real nice equipment. And the shop area where the workers work can be fully seen by the waiting area through glass walls. They got camera's setup at each station and computer monitors hooked up to the workers computer monitors so you can see exactly what they're doing as they do it. They do good work.

True. With the proper equipment the chances of them messing up is very very slim.
