hey guys picked up a 92 cx. nothing special to it other than it needs alot of work. first things first needs to be road worthy. the alternator is froze up and we had to cut the belt to get it on the trailer. after we cut the belt we realized our jumper pack was dead anyway so we had to push it on. the only other thing it needs in brakes all the way around so im going to look into some power slots with hawk pads. ill keep you guys updated but it will take a long time to get it finished.

i would get a b but i would rather stay d for cost effectiveness, besides i dont really need a high hp engine just something that will get the car up and running

as far as my classing goes if i run N/A ill be in EP if i run boost ill be in XP so its going to be a very difficult class but im out there to have some fun. i have a few guys that i know that run DSP and i know a Steeda Focus that runs EP gutted caged and plexi windows.

well just got back from tearing everything apart. had to litterally rip the carpet apart and toss it because of mold and other fun things. everything came apart relatively easy and my friend and i found alot of rust on the floor pan of the drivers side along with a few holes that need to be addressed. everything is still going as planned and we will take an orbital sander to the interior steel surfaces and paint it with rustoleum paint.

the quarterpannels are also shot and need to be replaced but its not that big of a deal to me. the exterior will need alot of attention. the hood is shot and the fenders will need to be replaced.

the alternator came out with a few swings of a mallet and some wrenches so that all good. the alternator itself was rusted solid and we had to use a breaker bar to even get it rotating which kinda stinks.

now on to the good part i took about 20 pictures so you guys have an idea on what is going on so enjoy.

went over today to throw the alternator in today had it running for a few hours just idling in the drive way, fans kicked on, all functions worked that i checked including the parking brake which i was suprised about. so today was a big relief that the car was running under its own power instead of a battery charger.

in the next couple of days im going to use a borascope to check and see if i have the pistons in the engine that will allow me to do a minime swap instead of a full si swap. not too sure on that though we tried to move the car today and clutch is just about history. if the engine has to come out then ill do a swap most likely.

Had the day off today and alot of time on my hands, i bought a hood from a local guy for $40 bucks needed to be repainted of course so i figured i would do something fun and functional. since i autox i figured it would be nice to have somewhere on the car to write down the times so my friend and i can compare lap times. i got inspiration from the dodge caliber forums where someone painted their hood with chalkboard paint. so about 10 hours worth of work and 50 bucks in paint supplies i now have a chalkboard hood. here are some pictures to show the progress. i have to wait 48 hours for it to cure till i can use it.

first thing thats going on that hood in chalk is a chalk outline of a body because thats why the original hood is messed up someone hit a guy walking out of the bar about 5 years ago with the car. my g/f calls it cursed i call it character.

got an update, my friend and i put the hood on the car to take it up to a show in spring grove. had a blast and put the car in the burnout competition because i knew i wouldnt win any awards in the show. all in all had fun and blew the clutch up (on purpose).

we also found out the car has a few electrical gremlins that need to be fixed.

has anyone ever tore the dash out of one of these and rewired the whole car (keep in mind this will be a track only car).

here is the vid of the attempt of a burnout enjoy!

Wow, no interest in this project so far, eh?

I like what you're doing. Taking a hunk and turning it into an Autocrosser. There's plenty of usable power with the D series motors. Of course boosting will yield the highest power results, but depending on the size of the turbo you may be dealing with lag. Not to mention doing it right is not something that can be done on a super low budget. Looking forward to see the finished result. Have you decided on a coilover setup?

EGAutoX
08-10-2009, 11:22 PM
havent picked coilovers yet but prob going tein just for the simple reason they are known and have a good track record. basically my realistic budget is aprox 10k but i think i can get it done for 7500. so far i have about 300 into it just to get it on the street. its going to be a long road with my funds so im working on finiding a sponsor (i know a few guys in my area that might like some advertisement) so im gonna work that angle this winter when fiscal years come around and budgets are being made.

and yes there is almost no interest in this car guess im not doing an h22 or a k20 built with a huge turbo lol.

SlowTEC
08-10-2009, 11:55 PM
Well, to be honest, a lot of the jackasses on here rock D series, which is why I'm surprised no one's commented. I've seen very few K swaps.

Have you thought about the Ground Control/Koni setup? Haven't personally used it, but will be changing to it at the end of the year. Honda-Tech guys say nothing but the best about it on the track.

nice start... looking forward to you getting a motor together for it, and some suspension in it.

ill have to look into it im a long ways away from coilovers with the wedding coming up early next year and saving up for a house im strapped for cash. it is kinda nice though to get a few parts here and there but what i got was trading stuff i dont use anymore or selling stuff for the focus i have.

clubkid: thanks man its a slow build but im starting to make progress

yes you did do the paint on the hood and it looks great, now on onto the other thing, only time will tell but i know i got ya beat mine runs now i can take it around the block lol. seriously though it will be a toss up im going either all motor or small turbo to spool quick, and you are going turbo with full interior.

i honestly think your going to rub man..

might need to do wheel spacers to fit a 225 on there, and even using spacers i vote you still rub

keep in mind you can only do about a 5mm spacer before you run the risk of the lugs being a little too small as well..

yea your car runs, but not very well lol

yea im going to keep the interior in, but im also going to drive the car on the street quite a bit too..

we'll see who builds the faster car...lol

but this all depends, if either of us does a motor swap then that constest is over lol

225 is too wide i would think. Isn't the sidewall going to be a bit soft and too forgiving on the track?

slowtec racing slicks arent that forgiving from what i have seen, ill have to acctually find someone with that size and throw them on to see what happens. hooked anytime you guys have a cruise let me know ill come out, might no bring the civic due to the fact its going to be a trailer queen for its first few years . where do you guys run at?

so monday the car will be going away for the winter. a friend of mine is letting me store the car in a barn out west. have to get it out of the driveway for snow season and make room for a 1930 model a to stay in the garage but still park and suv on one side. i will keep updating as i gather parts but work will come to a standstill unless i feel like im going to freeze my but off working on the car outside.

EGAutoX
09-07-2009, 07:34 PM
the car has been dragged out to its winter home, sad thing is when i pulled it off the trailer i tore the bumper cover off now i have to replace that so ebay here i come.
