All Motor EM1 Build Thread! *56k NO*

Let me start off by saying im a person who swears by OEM parts, and will spend extra money on buying them. That will explain some reasons as to the things that ive done to my car and ive tried to put the best possible quality into the parts i buy.

I will use my first post as the post for Exterior, the second for Motor, and the third for Interior

Alright to start off I got this car back around March of 2007. The car was completely stock with 74k miles. The motor was mint and the body needed some work (It wasn't that bad but body damage annoys me) I jumped on the deal because bodywork can be fixed but motor problems are always a hassle. I drove the car home and took some pictures. Here they are:

Nothing too special right? Well a guy i knew was selling some black housing headlights so i decided to pick them up as well as remove the honda badge in the middle of the grille. Heres the picture of that:

Next i decided to go on and do the timing belt/water pump/ cam seal/etc. Here is a picture of this. I did use a mad tyte JDM PasswordJDM cam seal!

As you can see in the picture above the wheel gap was huge, so i decided to head up to Phantasm (a local shop that has basically sponsored my build) to pick up some things to fix that. This is what i grabbed:

After I lowered the car i decided to change out the sound system. The sound system went out in exchange for a Sony headunit, Pioneer door speakers, and JL Audio 10w7 subwoofer. I dont have any pictures of this but we all know what speakers look like. After the speakers came time for tint and i decided to go with 18% all the way around. Heres how it looked (the car isnt jacked up in the back like it looks idk why it turned out like that):

After the tint I got an alarm installed. I went with a Viper 5700 Two Way with remote start. Additionally features are tilt sensor, proximity sensor, kill switches, and a neutral safety module. I got this installed because I decided to get a Indash/Touchscreen/Navigation Pioneer D3. You can see it in the next picture. Shortly after disaster struck. A Heavy rain cause water to get just high enough to where it messed up my carpet pretty badly. So, i got on the phone with Honda and got BRAND NEW OEM carpet and floormats. Then for a short time everything kind of stood on standby. Nothing really happened to the car for awhile until September of last year. I decided to go on and order some OEM CTR headlights from HMOTORSONLINE.I didnt want the black ones on my car because they are knockoffs. Heres how they came to me:

Shortly after my girlfriend hooked me up with some yellow foglights for our anniversary. Here they are installed:

After that I went on and put some money into the shop I mentioned earlier and went to pick up some mad tyte JDM goodies. I got Work Emotion CR-KAI Wheels, a Fiber Images OEM style hood, and Kics Neo Crome Lugnuts. Heres the pictures:

Well i decided to make another trip to that shop and picked up another part-My Seibon carbon fiber trunk. Here it is:

Christmas came around and I got hooked up with a Skunk2 Dual Bend Short Shifter, Skunk2 Weighted shift knob, and Honda OEM CTR Shift Boot from my girlfriend again. My friend also got me a Buddy Club Oil Cap. Heres pictures of these items:

Now, back in February I talked to a guy about my bodywork/paint. I got a estimate on the price so I decided to go on and get the parts to fix the small rear end damage that occured BEFORE i owned the car. I got a Bumnper, new taillight, and skirt all brand new from honda. Here it is:

Yes i know, my girlfriend is awesome, because for V-day she bought me my D2 Lower Control Arms. Here's those:

Before i even had the car lowered i had bought a OEM Rear lip off my friend from his Si (No pictures) Well, i decided to sell my front OEM lip and got a Nin Autosports Mugen Style Lip. I was going to go with a Seibon Carbon lip but this car is daily driven and the Nin lip was Urethane so I dont have to worry about cracking. I have a picture of it ill post later.

Well, I talked to the painter and he wants a different body guy to do it so of course he wants 200 dollars more. The body work will start within the next 2 weeks. After body work comes paint and then putting all these parts on. I do not have any of these parts installed because I want my bodywork and paint straightened out before I put all these nice parts on there (i see no point in riding around with tons of doordings and small dents with a nice hood and trunk). I want everything to be brand new whenever the paint is brand new. Ill keep this thread updated frequently with things that I am buying/doing and will post pictures of the body work/paint process.

Motor Information:

While I was going through buying parts for the exterior I didnt forget about the Motor. I actually sold a CTR Swapped EG that i had and used that money to purchase a motor from my friend. He just went through and built the thing brand new and wrecked the car, so i got a newly built motor with less than 300 miles on it. This is the spec list for the motor as it sits right now:

Head:
Ferrea Dual Valve Springs
Ferrea Titanium Retainers
Ferrea Valves
Crower Turbo Camshafts
Edelbrock Victor X Intake Manifold
70 MM Throttle Body
AEM Fuel Rail
RC 1000 Injectors
Aeromotive FPR
Fuel Pressure Gauge
Port/Polish
Hondata Intake Mani Gasket

Block:
ARP Bolts throughout (head studs, rod bolts)
Wiseco 8.5:1 Compression Pistons
Eagle H Beam Rods
ACL Bearings
Vibrant Timing Belt Tensioner

This setup made 350 HP on 9lbs while the guy was getting it tuned. HOWEVER, With the amount of money I would have to spend to go turbo with this motor, and being that I've already had a turbo car, I am going all motor+spray(maybe) with this motor. I am changing out the pistons for 11.5:1 Compression Wiseco's and probably using Skunk2 Pro1 camshafts. Still undecided on Intake/Header/Exhaust combo but i plan on tuning the car with Hondata or AEM EMS. With the motor being sleeved im very tempted to spray it but im not sure yet.

As far as drivetrain I will be using my B16 tranny thats in my car and putting in a Comp Clutch and Comp 12lb Flywheel with ARP flywheel bolts. I actually have these on layaway right now.

Yeah its coming along-sometimes slower than I want it too-but alteast its moving haha.

Ive seen the wheels on a couple Si's before and liked the way they looked hopefully itll turn out nicely on mine

That response right there is exactly what i was looking for in this build. I see so many hondas that arent taken care of and im trying to change that with mine, especially in my area, its usually alot of riced out cars revving at everything that drives by.

I'm late but excellent thread. I just bought my black em1 a little over a month ago and have only driven it a few days. Been going behind the guy i bought it from fixing replacing everything. Well I'm glad to see others doing big things with theres so I figured i give ya the 2 thumbs up! When I get finished on my suspension I'll take some before and after pics because I'm painting soon. The one thing the guy actually did right was a well built all motor poorman type r engine. keep us informed
