i have a 91 sedan with a blown head gasket and am currently driving my 92 dodge dakota and getting raped with my 11mpg. friend of mine is stupid and thinks he can drive stick and blew the transmission in his Tsi. he wants my truck and i have replaced trannys in dsm's over 10 different times. do you think i should work out a trade with him? i have a transmission lined up if its a 2wd if its awd i can find something easy. opinions??

what kind of shape is it in other than the tranny?

the clear on the hood is peeling. all new belts and rad hoses. he repainted the roof a month or so ago. motor is strong, turbo spools nice.

why not. get rid of the truck you dont need to be wasting your money on gas like that especially now during all this economy shit. plus sounds like his car would be nicer than your truck.. if it was me i would work out some kind of trade..

or you could spend $45 on a new head gasket for your civic and not have to worry about the headaches of owning a dsm...

and then you still have a truck if you ever need it...

plan was to drive the truck until tax returns and get the head gasket and boost the civic. but it might change to trade the truck for the talon and sell the civic because the talon is already boosted.

ya but who wants to own a dsm?

lol. idk a friend had 3 and 2 were ok the 1 was a 92 talon auto, between 3 transmissions and all the internals i heave built a dsm transmission atleast 3 times. but the dropping and install of it thats a piece of cake. i think it took us an hour once, his dad timed us. i dont think i would mind having a dsm is it really that bad. please be honest.

so the kid who tries to drive like a street racer, aka the dsm owner. is getting a new transmission and isnt buying/trading for my truck. pissed me off, i had a tranny lined up and shit and he is saying he is going to keep it untill he goes to basic this summer.

my friend tried to trade a 98 neon rt for the talon and he almost took it because it had racing stripes. the deal breaker was the talon had a shinyer motor so his mom said it wasnt worth it. i hate people who know nothing about cars. but the friend with the neons dad rents this place to his cousin who had a prelude or a civic(he is not sure) and it has a broken tie rod end. he didnt know how to fix it so he left it sitting and moved to texas, it has been sitting for 6 months. the cousin is signing it over to my friends dad and we are going to fix the tierod end and he is going to sell it to me cheap. im kinda happy.

Doesnt sound like a bad deal.

i want to know if its a prelude or a civic, either way i will be happy, but i have wanted a lude for a long time. my luck it will be the pre 1992 body. good news is it is a 5 speed.

Found out last night that it is a 1990 integra, 2 door, 5 speed, silver, with cai. 200k miles though

Should i do it??

Dsm trannys are OK, not bad, not great. The reason you here so much about them is cuz alot of DSM drivers dont know how to drive and they just get eclipses and talons cuz there quick stock.

04-20-2009, 03:00 PM
He is not talking about getting a DSM anymore.

It really depends on what the definition of "cheap" is.

04-20-2009, 05:30 PM
less than a grand

04-20-2009, 06:58 PM
As long as the body/interior is not in bad shape, it sounds like a decent deal.

i personally havnt seen the car. my buddies dad said the transmission is really tight, and there is some rust around the quarters.
