Well, I'm back. Picked up a Del Sol the other day for super cheap. Needs some body work but I'll be doing that myself then getting it repainted. This built will hopefully go fast. I've only had the car for 2 days and put about 3 hours of work into it. Cleaned up the interior and started sanding tonight.

Short term plans...

Sportmax 002 silver/polished lip, 15x8 0et and either a stretched 185/45 or 195/45
Some sort of coilover to get low
Slightly pulled and mega rolled fenders
Some RLCA/subframe/sway bar bling
Stock tails

So enough talk, here's some pictures...

And I care what you think?

why such wide wheels?

Just trying to do something different. Not too many Honda guys do the low offset stretched tire look. I thought I'd be a bit different and try it out. Since I'm doing body work I can pull/roll the fenders/rear quarters. I'm not doing a huge pull though because that would look dumb I think. Just something to give me a bit more clearance. With the right amount of camber I should be able to fully tuck tire and get the wheel lip at the fender arch:P

Nice FWD Miata ;)

Welcome back yo

I was going to get a NA but after test driving one it just didn't feel that solid. Test drove the Del Sol and instantly knew...'now this is a Honda'

I wanted to get a NA just so I could go with a super wide stance, but then I said screw it, I'll just do it on a Honda:cool: They do look good on NA's though. Here's one Del Sol with them, accept he's not doing it right in my eyes, it's gotta be lower...

Yeah, I don't really care. I don't see the need to buy legit wheels for a Honda that's going to be for looks. Plus, in BC it's pretty slim to come across legit low offset wide wheels.

What color are you painting it?

Just stock black.

Did some more sanding today. I hit the whole body with 220 on an electric orbital sander. Left some swirls but with 600/1000/2000 stages by hand it turns out really good. Still need to do the fine sanding, it's all just 220 right now. I rolled and pulled one front fender and it turned out pretty good. Needs a bit of bondo to smooth out some dimples but other then that I think it should be good clearance for the wheels I'm going with. Also had to cut out a bit of the rear quarter because of the rust. Still need to sand out rust, pull and roll the rears, and either find a new driver side fender or fix the one I got now, then pull and roll that.

you really shouldnt pull the fenders until you have the wheels on the car. its a lot easier that way and you can make sure the fitment is on point.

but what do i know, its not like ive ever dealt with wheel fitment before.

Haha, I sense sarcasm. Yeah you got a good point. But I'm not going with a stupidly large flare because that looks dumb in my opinion. If it's not enough, then I'll just have to run some camber. I just ordered the wheels, they should be here in a little over a week. Now I need suspension so I can get low.

Got a new driver side fender. It's not perfect, but it's more fixable then my other one. Put that on today and pulled/rolled that fender and started getting it ready to smooth it out with some bondo. Also prepped some tiny door dings for bondo as well.

I still need to roll the passenger rear fender but after that the fenders just need to be smoothed with bondo and they're good to go.

Aaaaiiiiggghhtttt boys and girls....got a decent amount done today (have been working on it but not updating)

-Interior fully gutted
-Door jam rust grinded, bondod, and puttied (needs quick sand)
-Driver rear quarter finished
-Passenger rear quarter grinded, bondod, 3 coats of putty (needs some more sanding and feathering)
-Rear emblem and spoiler holes shaved (needs a bit more sanding)
-Tiny rust spots on trunk lid, inside trunk, on panel edges all grinded and sanded

I gotta pick up some more sand paper but once I do that I can finish up the whole rear section of the car in about 5 hours. Then all that's left is the rust on the underside of the hood, rad support needs to be pulled, and front bumper needs a good couple hours at least.

Tried to look into some spray on sound deadener today. It's $30 for a 20oz can (pretty big). Or I can get a 50 square ft roll of Dynamat style product from Andres for $175 but I might need 2 rolls to do everything I want.... I still want to find a paint on product...suggestions?

Enough talk...

I'll try my best. I just get lazy to update. Wheels/tires should be here tomorrow. Still gotta order up some full body coils, ASR subframe, rear sway bar, rear LCA's, full bushing set, trailing arm bushings. My goal is to make it as solid and smooth as possible, with the obvious stiff suspension. I want a healthy stiff though, no old worn bushings or ball joints. That's also why I want to sound deaden the whole car, I don't care if it weighs a bunch, I'm going for quiet solid ride.

Mine is fully sanded right now and ready for paint, so I have no need for yours.

Going to be placing an order for 100 sq/ft of B-Quiet Ultimate to do the full interior and trunk. Also going to get a super thin foam and adhere that on top of the B-Quiet with a 3M spray adhesive as it's cheap, light, and would help a lot on top of the B-Quiet product. I'm going for a car as quiet as a BMW!

Ready to paint now?

No no....

Still have to feather out the passenger side rear quarter and that one needs to get a lot of shape back so there will have to be a few more coats of putty yet and lots of sanding with a long block to get it formed right again. Rear spoiler and emblem holes have to be sanded with a long block to insure no high spots (I could do it with an electrical orbital but then it wouldn't take the shape of the rest of the flat trunk surface). Door jam rust needs to be sanded out, then just the front end needs the rest of the attention. Pulling out the rad support a bit and fixing up the hood. I had yesterday off work so I got a lot done, but now I'm working split shifts for awhile. Hopefully by Sunday evening I should have it ready for paint:cool:

I wish man. I got so many split shifts these days I never get a chance to work on the car unless it's at like 10pm and I'm not allowed to sand in the garage anymore, only outside so I need daylight:( I got Saturday and Sunday until 4pm off so hopefully I can put in a good 16 hours or so. Hopefully finish up the rear quarters, grind out the hood and bondo it, pull the rad support and make the bumper minty. After that it just needs tiny little things puttied and smoothed, then a full body light sand and it's ready for primer.

Wheels/tires should be here today or Monday the latest, I'll probably test fit them and get some pictures for shits and giggles. 100sq/ft of B-Quiet Ultimate should be here late next week or early the following, and I'll be placing an order for some D2 coils today most likely. Things I also have on my list besides paint, that are luxury items, are new drilled/slotted rotors, Hawk HPS pads, Blox rear LCA, ASR subframe/24mm swaybar combo, trailing arm bushings and a full new bushing set. I'll probably do the rotors/pads, then rear LCA, then the bushings and lastly the subframe/swaybar kit.

Also will be picking up a type-r style and OEM Si lip for $80 this weekend.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u203/alexmurovec/Bodywork15.jpg
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u203/alexmurovec/Bodywork16.jpg

Here's a shot of the trunk. I just sprayed it to seal it up, there was some parts of surface rust coming through so I sanded them down and painted it. The whole trunk will be covered in B-Quiet anyways though.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u203/alexmurovec/Bodywork17.jpg

Got the front fenders, rear bumper, trunk, roof, and license plate valence all prepped out and primed

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u203/alexmurovec/Bodywork18.jpg

So here's the deal:

Ordered an Energy Suspension master bushing set and trailing arm bushing set today. New drilled and slotted rotors with Hawk HPS pads and rear LCAs will be next pay cheque. I'll finish up all the body work and prime it with spray cans like I did the panels so far just to seal it up. B-Quiet should be here soon. I plan to install all of that and reassemble the interior as well as the primed body. I'll probably just rock the primer for a good couple weeks or maybe a month. I'm fine rolling around primed with new suspension, bushings, wheels/tires, rotors/pads, sound deadened and then save for the paint work.

AlexM

Aiiiggghtt....

Got a decent amount done in the last couple days. Sound deadneing installed in the cabin and interior back in. Wheels also came in today so I put those on. I'm keeping them on even though it's 4x4, it just handles so nice compared to 13" winters. Also took the baffles out of my muffler because they rattled and it was annoying. Interior is super quiet now except for the loud exhaust that's being thrown around in the trunk because I haven't put deadening in there yet and there's no panels. But wow, what a difference that stuff makes, stereo sounds so much crisper, etc etc. Feels like a new car. I can't imagine what it's going to be like with new suspension and all new bushings.

Enough chit chat....

Same wheels, same size, just different color from the white 'Sol. I'm just running a smaller tire than him, 195/45. I'm gonna have to get a camber kit to tuck the rears, but the fronts are flared and it should be good.

Not my favorite wheels, but it should look good slammed. Keep it up.

AlexM
04-22-2009, 02:56 AM
It's gonna be tricky to get slammed in the rear. Natural camber won't tuck those, even with the rolled fender. I'm going to have to buy a camber kit to add some to get them inside the wells. Fronts will be fine, I should be able to be slammed and turn lots via flared/rolled fenders.

looks good man. You should look around for paint ideas unless you're really set on black, but that would be one of the last colors I would choose I were to repaint the entire car.

I'm starting to think differently as well.....

My paint guy says it's not hard to do a color change, and since I plan on keeping the car for awhile, I don't really care if the inside of the trunk, or hood is black. When I swap I can always paint the bay too, plus you rarely see it anyways. I was kind of thinking white because it doesn't show defects as much. For my first body work, black just isn't a good color.

Paint colors guys? Kind of leaning towards white, maybe something flat, but then again I like the bling factor to go along with the wheels....

I most likely won't be painting it myself, but if I go with some sort of color that doesn't show defects as much, I might just finalize the body work myself and spray it. My original plan was to get it the best I can, and bring it into my body work guy and get him to do his final touches and spray it.

It's a terrible DD at the height it is now. Suspension is soft and I rub in the rear all the time. It's gonna be slammed with lots of camber don't you worry:P

Yeah a frost white would be nice, but right now I'm into a super light grey. Not silver, not off white, but a light grey, not too much shine because that's not the type of color it is. I saw a Chevy Impala, newer one that color but I can't find it. It's also similar to Ford Escape grey. I'll try to get a picture...

Good luck tucking hey? Suspension came in today. I just had some time to put the fronts in during my split shift before I go back. All the way down with 2 rings and no brake brackets and the fork hammered all the way up. With the flared fenders and 45 series tire, even being all the way down, I can fully crank without rubbing:cool: It's not really that low though, I test fit my bumper and front lip, and the lip is still 3 fingers off the ground. I'll probably end up hammering the inner fender seam flat and taking off one ring to get lower and still have the clearance.

SUCK IT!

Rears will be in today. Ran into some snapped bolts and bolts with broken off heads from the previous install. One side went in fine, but I need a camber kit to add about 3 more degrees to tuck the top of the side wall, then go lower and let natural camber get them tucked.

I'm all the way down up front on F2's with the 2 coil rings, no brake line brackets and a hammered down shock body into the fork and I can fully crank without rubbing, it's so sick. I'm gonna go with a Blox rear camber kit, they can go +/- 5 degrees. I should only need about 3-4 more degrees to clear the tire, then the rest will be natural as I go lower. Hella flush here we come!

You know what they say. Once you're low, you go lower. And you're going to be paying out the ass for new tires every 6 months with that camber your going to have lol

Oh buddy....it all started when I got Koni/GC on my white hatch. Closed off the wheel gap, then tucked some tire, then tucked the whole tire, then got 14's, then bottomed out on everything. I honestly hated the Koni/GC setup, it was so uncomfy and inconvenient. All the HT guys swear by it, but these F2's I just got are a million times better. It drives like the Koni's did at 4 inches high right now. I'm pretty low, not slammed, and it's not bouncy at all, has a nice rebound, bit isn't overly stiff at all and is quite dampening I've actually sooo surprised, even with the 45 series tire.

Yeah I'll probably have to get my tires rotated in like 3 months if not sooner running this kind of camber, but hey, it's the price I pay and I'm not oblivious to it. Oh well, next summer when I bring it out again I can just get some gangster Nankang 165/50/15's and stretch the hell outta them and add spacers:cool:

Thanks man! Still a lot of feathering to do and final touches with a molding putty. I just put it all back together so I can tackle one tiny spot at a time, otherwise it's overwhelming and you're kind of forced to halfass all the main spots. This way I can focus on one spot when I get a chance, make it perfect, then move on. Right now I'm in no rush to paint. New rotors, HPS pads, ES trailing arm bushings and ES master bushing set are coming in about a week, then I'll start doing the final body work and getting it ready for paint.

Went lower, of course...

Took off 2 of the 3 rings up front. It's as low as it will go unless I cut spring. I bottom out the UCA on the shock tower so I might cut a hole in it tomorrow. I still have like 6" of shock travel, it's just the UCA has 1" max of clearance before it bottoms out. Still gotta put in the last shock so right now I'm on 3 corners with F2's, haha. It's a bit bouncy but also stiff, nice rebound, it's not bad. Once I get the last rear in then I can really see what it feels like, but it's definitely got the gangster bop to it right now :P

I think you might be talking about HIN. I guess the roads around the the stadiums are decent. But, I'd watch out for the bridge links on the freeway, they stick up about 1" maybe 1.25". I know my lip, when I had it, and my exhaust banged hard on those when I'd go over them.

My friend's and I cruised up past downtown Seattle for a Honda meet, my friend's EK, he is lower than you(koni/GC) and he blew out the bottom of his oil pan from the bridge links.

Something to think about.

edit: what sucks about Tacoma roads is they don't have a very good upkeep on them. I really have to watch when, where, and how I drive. A normal trip to the Tacoma Mall would be like a 25min drive in a stock height car, but for me, I have to take a bunch of detours and add about another 15 or 20mins.

Seattle roads seem to be always under construction and it seems every street has a steel plate on it, and man-hole covers stick up a bit as well.

My cost of paint at a massive discount? Some guy just started working at my work that used to work at an autobody shop for 8 years before he was laid off because of the economy. He knows the main paint supplier for all the autobody shops in town and can get me a wicked price. He's also going to help me block the whole car with a series of 220/400/600 grit so the paint comes out perfect. He's got a gun and the whole setup from when he worked before and is very experienced. Drilled and slotted rotors as well as Hawk HPS pads on all 4 corners and ES rear trailing arm bushings will be bought tomorrow. Camber kit should hopefully be here Friday so the rear will get slammed, trailing arm bushings in, and aligned.

Next pay cheque I will be buying a front windshield and paint. Looking to get it painted around May 20. Then I'll be saving for a little less then a month and come mid June ASR rear subframe/ASR rear sway bar kit, rear LCAs, Energy suspension master bushing set and another fresh alignment should be in the books.

I'd rather get the base of the vehicle down (suspension, paint, wheels), then I can call it good and start saving for other things such as my 2 month trip to Thailand. Haha, thanks. I might go up an inch in the front once I get the rear slammed. Right now it's super driveable but I can't bomb anywhere in confidence. Bottoming out the UCA is just too painful. I'll probably go up an inch, that way I can fully crank without rubbing and have tons of travel with the UCA because I cut the towers. Down the road I'll probably cut out the whole strut tower and raise the top mount to the upper location. I can slam lower then I am now and have more travel then I would if I went up an inch. Gotta talk to my welder friends ;)

Exactly, that's one of my main reasons for maybe not going that route. Wide stance polished wheels just wouldn't flow on khaki for some reason. Here's a $50 paint job in smoke grey, I like the tint to it, but just a bit too blue maybe....

are u gonna paint it yourself? i missed that.

Just had a new friend from work come over tonight to help me on the body work. He used to work at an autobody shop doing paint, prep, and body repairs for 7 years. He said he was very impressed with my work and there wasn't much to change. We refilled a few low spots, but other then that he said it's golden. Feels so good to have that said! I have a million pounds lifted off my shoulders

I'll be buying high build exopy primer with a mixed in sealer tinted black when I get paid next and then the whole car will be primed. The autobody friend will be spraying the primer for me. Then it's all sealed and I don't have to worry, then we're going to either have him spray it, or one of his friends that still work at the shop spray it in a booth with the final coat when I feel like it.

I think Alex needs to update us.

Shut it fool. Car is almost fully prepped and ready for prime. I gotta wait till I get paid in 8 days in order to buy the primer. A week from this weekend the car will be fully stripped, all panels off, and high build seal primed with a black primer, then fully assembled. Weather stripping will all be taken off and sprayed with the primer and then all re-siliconed back in place. Then when I get the final coat it will just have to be taped off well but it will be sprayed as a complete car as the little pieces under neath weather stripping etc will be fully sealed.

Getting my hands on a rear LCA bushing so I can finally get the rear slammed. Camber kit should be here sometime this week as well so I can tuck the rears, get a final stance, then get it aligned.

Rear suspension is in. Stiff as hell and I love it. Camber kit didn't come. It was shipped out April 27th and it's taking a super long time to get here. Hopefully it'll be here this week then I can tuck the rear, actually get low, and get it aligned.

oddeb707

You sure they can add camber on the rear though? I took a good look at the stock kit and it looks pretty solid and non adjustable. I need like 3 degrees to clear then the natural will take it down to tuck, then I can adjust it to get it mega flush:cool:

Stock muffler is on. Painted the whole unit flat black and I have a polished tip on it. Looks pretty good, just waiting for silicone to dry so I can see how it sounds. Old muffler was nice, loud, and I liked it, but it was ugly. Maybe I'll polish it up and put it back on, who knows. But even without the muffler, the car sounded the exact same, so I'm pretty sure the stocker will be dead silent.

oddeb707
05-09-2009, 05:33 PM
All I know is I asked for -2 in the rear and they made it happen.

kyle10182
05-09-2009, 05:46 PM
you can't adjust the stock camber arms at all. you can add washers to push the tire out and add positive camber, thats the only way it can move without modifying the camber arm.

AlexM
05-09-2009, 06:29 PM
All I know is I asked for -2 in the rear and they made it happen.

Because you probably had -4 before. I had more negative camber before my alignment then after when I brought it into Honda.

New muffler is mega quiet. You can drive with the top off and talk quiet and be easily heard. The sound deadening helped a lot with that as well. But damn, so quiet inside it feels like a BMW convertible. Hardly need to pump the music and it's easily heard as well. Sound deadening also traps all the bass from escaping and the crappy Pioneer speakers that are running off the deck sound like they're $400 mid bass speakers. Can't wait till I get a gangster 4 channel and 4 components.

Did a bit of cutting today....

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u203/alexmurovec/Bumper2.jpg

The grille was all cracked and had a bunch of thick paint peelage on it. It was easier just to cut it out instead of trying to save it. Kinda looks gay now but I'll get some super fine black mesh or something. Or just get a big fat intercooler

Finished blocking out the last rear quarter. Car is basically ready for primer. All panels need to come off, given a light rough up sand with some 220, then sprayed and let cure for a couple days, then reassembled. Only things I have left is shaving the windshield squirters and pull the rad support out again a tiny bit. Can't wait till I get paid Thursday so I can buy some primer then she's gettin' stripped down again.

AlexM

Just shaved my windshield squirter holes and pulled out the front end again. Everything lines up nice now. Just waiting on payday to buy primer then take the car apart. I'm going to setup a system in my backyard where I can hang all the panels for easy painting. Should be gangster.

It's just high build primer. Body shops don't even prime in booths. After the primer is cured you use a product called guide coat, basically like a super fine chalk and rub it all over the car. Then you block the whole car out with a 400-800 grit sandpaper until all the chalk is gone. Places where they chalk doesn't disappear you know is a small low spot so you keep blocking that area till it's gone. That way you know your body is flawless and you won't have any waves. Spraying outside may sound ghetto but it's just a primer coat that's going to be blocked out anyways. I will just be doing the inners of the panels, then reassembling, then doing the final prime coat as a complete car. It's the legit way to do it as you don't have to worry about unevenly painted panels if you spray them individually.

Oh come on, I put a picture up of my cut up bumper. Car really looks the same, just most of the old primer is all sanded off. Car has been blocked and is all ready for primer. Now I'm just waiting for Thursday to roll around so I can get paid and buy primer. I'll also be purchasing a 5 pcs Ebay strut bar kit and a new windshield. I don't care what you guys say about the Ebay strut bars, but upper/lower front and rear strut bars as well as a c-pillar bar will make a huge difference compared to stock. It's $140 for the whole kit and for what it's worth to me, I'd rather do that then pay about 1g to get brand new shit, even though it's a bit thicker.

AlexM
05-13-2009, 07:33 PM
Let's just say I got my rear camber kit in... (rear bumper tab is pushing the bumper up on one side so that's why it looks uneven). Rear is more tucked then the front right now, I just put it in quickly between my work shifts. I'll probably raise it up a tiny but, or maybe go the rest of the way down in the front. I can still go another 1" or more down on all 4 corners. Bring the hate!

Meh, each to their own. Still handles way better then the Explorer did. Yeah, it would be a whole lot better with some proper sized wheels and not as much camber, but it's the look I'm going for.

not feeling the ridiclous camber either ... if some shit stock pepboys tires only lasted 10k on the FRONT of my accord with no alignment or kit ... i cant see more than 2k miles with the outside not even touching the ground

I gotta get an 4 wheel alignment, but yeah even after that I'm going to chew tires quick. I wouldn't say 2k miles but I'll be getting new tires every summer that's for sure. I might pick up a rear toe kit as well. Some companies just started making them and stock you can't adjust the toe in the rear, only the front. Camber doesn't ruin tires as fast if you have correct toe, but my rears even with a correct toe will wear just because of the amount of camber I'm running.

lol, you should keep the tail lights like that

I can't find another stock tail. I'm going to black out the altezzas and rock those I think until I can find another stocker. But hell, I don't care what anyone thinks so I'll probably just rock mix-matched for awhile, hehe.

Man I'm gettin' good at takin' these silly Hondas apart. Took off all panels accept doors and roof. Also painted the front section of the engine bay. It had to be pulled out and there was some scratches on it and a bit of rust starting from before. Also painted the front lower rad support and PS lines and what not. Now that I have no bumper grill you see that, so at least it'll all be dark and black now. Paint was still wet in pictures so ignore the terrible-ness look of it. But most importantly, went another " lower in the front and about 1" higher in the rear. I had some reverse rake going on before, so I fixed that, and gave it a bit of an aggressive stance. Tire-fender/quarter clearances are beautiful. Took some pictures of my clearances too...

Might be a bit yet, been gettin' shorted on hours and I still gotta buy a new front windshield and my final paint. But after that LCAs, subframe/sway bar kit, and 5 pc strut kit will be on order.

Sol is lookin' pretty fuckin' sweet. I'm wanna do a lip like that. What exactly did you use? Garden molding?

What do your parents say about how low your car is? My dad loves when I show him low cars.

It absolutely blows my Mom's mind why I would go so low that I rub when I turn my wheels. My Dad just laughs when I show him my under clearances. The lip is just garden molding, pretty standard stuff. There's a little ridged piece that you hammer into the soil that you need to cut off. But then you mount the flat part at the top, and the little rounded piece on the bottom of it just chills close to the ground. It's dope, I'm down with it.

Car is fully primed, just needs to be put back together and given a couple more complete sprays. Pretty sure I'll end up just rockin' the primer for awhile, who knows, maybe all summer:cool: Probably start buying an ASR subframe brace, sway bar, LCAs, new front windshield then start saving for my Thailand adventures.

I always liked the way primer black looked, but I heard it's way too hard to keep it clean...We'll see how it turns out, can't wait to see the car put back together!

Oh yeah...nice boat!

Still needs a couple more coats of the high build primer. All panels are back on though. All I need to do is sand up some slight imperfections, mask it all off, and give it another 2-4 coats. After that, if I decide to paint it right away, I'll have to block the whole car out with some 400 grit then get it sprayed the final base/clear single stage in a booth. I don't mind the look of the primer though. It's absolutely hilarious how many looks I get driving down the road though being so low.
