ok for starters, i got back from basic training and ive been gone almost 6 months..i get home and my mother has been driving my civic. Unfortunately, my oil light is on and my car makes a knocking/ticking noise when its started and it wears down then when i go over 3500 rpms it makes that noise again. Im assuming my mother ran the car without oil because my dipstick was dry as all get out, that maybe i messed up my baron or however you spell it. I changed my oil and it still does this, so im assuming its f'd up. And my civic has 140,000 on the engine. If i replace my barons ill have to take my engine out, pull it apart and rebuilt part of it. thats about 1,000 in labor. to me it makes sense to just get a replacement and get a new engine, something faster, and that only cost 500 in labor to take out and put in. So if i can find a nice engine for 500-800 it would make sense to pay for that then 500 in labor rather than rebuild a old slow engine. not sure whats wrong with the engine, any ideas?

anyways im wanting to know which engines i can do the swap without having to swap to a manual tranny. im running a automatic right now, so fast swap can i do to keep the same tranny?

what do you think, rebuild, or new engine?

just need some ideas

just try and fix it yourself again, all that money you would spend on labor, you can spend on parts. If it was a manual, i drop in a Ls motor. cheap & decent amount of hp.

ill be honest, i know the majority of what id need to know, but i dont know enough to rebuild and take a part. i just think for the same amount i can get a decent engine with less miles. i wouldnt want to pay and fix this, when its over 1000. i can buy a new one and get it put in. appreciate it
