View Full Version : My Rally Car Build Thread (Civic Content Soon)

Hi Everyone,

For those that don't know who I am. I'm Tony. I've been a Moderator on Clubcivic.com for a year or so. (maybe 2 now)
I'm from Chicago, but I moved to Minneapolis this past October. Moving up here has really opened my eyes to rally racing. I've been racing this summer in our local rallyX's, and have been doing really well.

I have strayed from the Civic world and have been concentrating on my WRX. Well, priorities have changed. Since my soon-to-be wife (less than 3 weeks I'll be married) and I have decided to build a rally car, I have talked myself out of building an AWD Subaru and decided to go FWD. Parts are cheaper, and the cars are easier to work on.

I plan on running FWD classes for a couple of years. I'll need to build up points to race a turbo AWD car anyway, so I figure a Civic will be my best bet.

My wife will be my navigator, so anything I decide on, I will have to go through her first. After all, I'm going 50/50 on this with her. (yes, she is that fucking rad)

So the point of this thread, is so all of you can see EVERYTHING. From the search for my car, to the search for my tow rig. And all the preparation in between. It may be a slow moving thread for the next 3-5 months. But once a car is acquired, look for it to move quite a bit.

With all this, go ahead and tell me I'm crazy. I really don't mind. All I know is that when I post videos of successes and failures, at least I'm out there doing something.

Stage 1 is looking for the car. I would LOVE a hatch, but I've found a few sedans with swaps that i think I'm going to go after.

See you all in the woods.

good luck, can't wait to see what you pick up for this build, I agree with page 1 go cheap.. rally breaks a ton of stuff and subaru parts are far more expensive, and they suck to work on

Still looking for cars.

I spoke with a buddy this week that is a driver for a pro team, and he said he'll be glad to help me on the build to make sure I'll get certified and everything passes inspections. I'm hoping to run all 3 max attack Rally America races in 2010. I have a lot of work to do.

Hehe, Yeah, i've been reading for quite some time, just felt i needed to chime in, as i would like to somewhat make my 92 dx hatch into a rally car of sorts.

This is by far the most civilized civic forum i've found haha.

I've got a 91 hatchback and was thinking of turning it rally. Its pretty much stock. but theres a shit ton of good washes in the desert around where i live. Would love input.

Get some good shocks, keep your stock springs, get some good tires(winter or true rally) and you're set.

I've RallyX'd a WRX, my old ACR Neon and my sponsor '91 Civic Si beater over the years. Honestly my favorite car out of them was the Neon. Handled and drove better than the WRX and had a little more grunt than the Civic.

But, you'd be surprised how well an older Civic can do at a RallyX event. With nothing more than some snow tires and a decent driver, you can easily beat the Subies with little effort.

Hopefully in a few years I'll get another ACR Neon and build it up. I miss mine..
