Well, as some of you may know, I did a rapid part out of my hatch to make way for the new baby.

This baby.

Yep, I got a Del Sol. On April 23rd, I got over the hatch. It hasn't been what I've wanted for a while now, I just think I was ignoring that little itch. I was even planning to get another hatch to transfer all my parts onto so it would be 'perfect,' but even then I wouldn't be happy. I came across the Sol while searching for '1997 Civic' on Craigslist. As soon as I saw the ad, I fell in love.

I called the guy after sleeping on the idea and having it bounce around in my mind all the next day. When we were driving out to look at it, it was already as good as sold. I barely even needed to look at it. It ran perfect, it looked great for it's age ... it was just right.

I couldn't resist, so I took some pics on the drive back home.

And once I got home, I wasted absolutely no time removing the Alpine deck and installing my beloved Gathers HU.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3587/3469711139_ce0af279b3_o.jpg

The next day, I drove down to Portland after work to pick up some B+G S3 ITR-Spec coilovers with some ITR LCA's.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3312/3472303411_0429266364_o.jpg

After I got it all put together with the coils and the wheels. I also threw on my CTR exhaust after bending the hangers out and forward to match the Del Sol hangers.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3312/3526738015_eaf56eae12_o.jpg

After I was satisfied, I drove to the torn-down 'Up The Creek' Bar+Grille in Shelton to take some pictures.

A couple days later, I got my WINK mirror in from Amazon and installed it. Right now, I have no visors because you have to take out the huge rubber "non-visor" pieces. I'll be getting the EDM visors later.

Took this nifty shot while I was waiting to pick up Amy's car from paint.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3566/3492695333_525521c295_o.jpg

I then put on my JDM VXi full decal set, including the rarely-used "Two Way Paradise" wing panel decals.

Gotta go back to my cousin's shop tomorrow to pick some up, after I finish running the RCA's and power up through the car. Going to go around the rear firewall, and then do the typical "down the body seam" s***. Go up behind the glovebox with the RCA's and out the ECU grommet to the battery. Used flat black for the power and gloss black for the ground.

08/02/09
Finished up my subwoofer install and got the deck / amp all tuned up and sounding great no matter what I'm listening to.

I rerouted that ground cable to inside the rear firewall because there was a M5 washer bolt just inside, and it made the operation just that much cleaner. Ran the RCA's under the personal trunk, and then up the center console, and ran them with the deck harness, and tucked it into the flexo around it, so it stays nice and tight and doesn't rub on anything.

Final product:

08/10/09
Made my false floor today out of 1/8" hardboard. Used the original particle board as a template, then cut an 20" x 12" trough. Measured out the sub from there, and ended up with a box about 20" x 16" with an arc at the top. Lined the underside edges of the box with 1/16" x 1/4" foam strips, cut the corners of the fabric, cut a small square out, and folded it over. Used heavy-duty webbing adhesive to stick it to the underside, and then used the fabric I cut out in conjunction with no-slip webbing to make pads.

Oldschool MINE's Racing shift knob I got off an S13 shell for $5. The chrome was chipping off, so I sanded it down to the nickel. Polished it up, but didn't like the look. Took it down to 400g and then to 800g to give it a brushed look.

shoulda got a b16a3.
not sure what the vxi had in it, but im guessing it was an a2.
looks alright for a girl car..

mymmeryloss
09-03-2009, 01:45 PM
i think i may stand corrected on the a2 coming in the vxi, but im not feeling like searching, so ill take it in the ass if im wrong this time..

Eran
09-03-2009, 01:57 PM
The VXi came with a D15B (non-VTEC) for 93-95 and a D16A (a Y7 equivalent) for 96-97. It's an S-model. The VXi Two-Way paradise was a special model that only came or 96-97 and was only in silver, white, and back.

I got myself a B16A2 block with an A3 head and transmission.

Billy.
09-03-2009, 01:59 PM
lol @ Two-Way Paradise.. i had me some of that the other night :naughty:

No. The Two-Way Paradise decals (as I've been told) only came on VXi's. That was the name for the del Sol in a lot of literature, but the decals were only on a package for base models. I'd have to ask Tom Lin for more information.

Before I get seventeen people coming out of the woodwork to tell me how much Sony XPLOD decks suck -- try this deck out first hand. I was VERY surprised. It's got quite a good sound quality, decent preouts, parametric EQ, and has the best iPod interface I've seen on a single-din. It can scroll through artist lists and skip tracks real time.

any plans for the transtop?

Eran
09-13-2009, 05:36 PM
No plans for a Transtop. More weight + more expensive + more things that can break. It's expensive enough to get the parts, and the work itself costs a pretty penny. I don't have the skills nor supplies to install a thing like that myself.

mymmeryloss
09-13-2009, 07:46 PM

A Transtop isn't a "part". There's cutting and welding involved. It's body work. :what:

In the US the del Sol was badged as the Civic del Sol and the del Sol (depending on the year).

They were never badged as the CRX del Sol here. That was only used overseas.

I think I have it upside down in that photo, because when I had it in before, there wasn't a gap. It needs a little rubber gasket around it, because the body is a little thinner than a stock switch.

Video with functioning.

how do you like the fuzions? i had those, i thought they did alright for spirited driving, even did a autocross with them.

Eran
02-16-2010, 02:38 PM
They're shit, lol. I mean, they've lasted FOREVER and they did OK at auto-x, but the sidewalls fold hardcore. I'm keeping them on the EG2 wheels for daily beater status (plus, it's only a 15x6) and getting some Dunlop Direzza Star Spec's for my Stark's. They're like $107 a tire, but fuckin' hell are they sticky. They just started making them in some smaller sizes (195/50/15 and 205/50/15) instead the smallest size being 195/55/15.

Nice! I've got Direzzas at the moment. awesome tires

I'm actually going with the Falken RT-615's now. Very comparable tire (Direzza's have a stiffer sidewall), but they're $30 less a tire for the same size (savings of $120), and there's an $80 mail-in, so that puts it at a $200 savings. Guy is paying me for my Ameripol top on Wednesday, so there's my tire money. Bam. :P

No plans for the transtop or rear fog. ;)

I really would like one of the JDM rear windows, but that'll be when it's no longer a daily driver. Deleting rear defrost = stupid for a Washington DD. :P

I've got Azenis rt615 on my other wheels too. your going to fucking love em. I don't knw if there's a way to measure or determine hardness on the sidewalls, but i have to say that Azenis have the stiffer sidewall. They also have a lower treadware, which makes them stickier! I bought them about two years ago and only used em for year, they've been sitting in storage wrapped on Si wheels, one day i realized "why am i using such a great tire for daily commuting" and that's when i found the Fuzions, lol. I got the azenis for like 350 shipped from edgeracing. that place went out of business now.

funny thing though, when i went from Azenis to Fuzions, i actually felt like the car was faster. ugh, part of it is because i through my car's suspension out of balance. Sometimes i wish i could of never swap out the d16

You can't buy them brand new. I paid $1200 in like 7/10 condition. They go for $1500 all day in used condition.

Mine are professionally refinished with brand new decals Zero miles since refinish, no scuffs, no scrapes, no tires mouned.

Not a huge fan of Azenis but at $200 savings that pretty much a steal! I have a feeling that the Star Specs will last longer than the 615's though. :/
