So i just now found the build threads (im really new to this) and ive been workin on my car for about a year with not too many improvements besides getting it back to stock or just getting better parts to replace stock ones. yeah this car started out as a ricer (a serious one lol) but is now almost back to its perty oem state. now for less talk and more pics

engine when i got her

now after some tlc

interior (before it was like a neon blue)
http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/3751/im000640.jpg

heres the front but tomorrow ill post a pic of the front w/my newly aquired painted front bumper!
http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/5492/im000638.jpg

and my favorite part so far... the rims. im soo glad i got these 15 in eagle alloys cause they make my car ride so much better than the 17's i had before. yeah i had some ricer rims before these.
http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/1939/im000637.jpg

im almost done with the system cause i had a 15" mtx 7500 but i traded that for the rims (and $120). now its just 2 10" mtx road thunders w/ a crunch pzi1000 amp that knocks my socks off. lol

oh dont worry these wheels are soon gonna be for just the track. i picked em up for 120 bucks and gave the guy an old 15" sub so i thought that was a pretty good buy. once i clean up my old 17's im gonna trade em for some 16's. any suggetions for 16's???

well today i decided to do a mini tuck by putting the fuse box in the cab
ended up buying a new battery terminal, a two foot section of 4 ga wire with connectors on either end, 2.5 feet of 0 ga wire and 4 ga connectors (fit the 0 ga really snug)
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/7600/partsx.jpg
found some washers and grinded them down to fit the connector good
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/9429/40227955.jpg
ended up needin new bolts for both wires
http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/9610/90869219.jpg
heres the wires connected

thanks! it cost me the total of 5 bucks to repaint it (found the black and red paint around the house)

Nice little 'write up' on moving the fuse box. I think I can do that...

thanks man. yeah the only "hard" part about it is that the wiring beneath the fuse box is not fun to shove through the rubber cover thing (yeah no idea what the name of that cover is) for whatever harness that is down there. i cut a slit in it and im talkin about a generous cut in that rubber thing and it was still a pain. id say if your good with cars this'll take you 2 hrs max.

next week....battery in trunk!

haha yep im gonna do that soon but ive been kinda busy lately. just finished fixing my brothers car for the SECOND time in one week. and got a 01 escort for 500 bucks that im puttin a new head gasket in and then sellin. btw went and got some "new" parts to start on the ex conversion for my car. once i get a energy suspenion kit all this is going in.

http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/1216/img0495i.jpg

http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/5847/img0496iq.jpg

i only paid 170 for all that and also got a ceiling light. the optional one on the ex (i think thats what it is)

well i started painting the sideskirts so hopefully by tomorrow theyll be done

OP, where's the battery tuck? I bet you've been procrastinating....

im sorry :( all the cars at my house except mine have been breaking so ive been playing mechanic for the past few weeks. new struts for brother, and distributor, oil changes, pulling head for head gasket replacement, etc. if i get the head reassembled tomorrow ill start on the battery tuck asap on wed. I promise!

Docta2002
11-16-2009, 10:12 PM
Nice, I painted my sideskirts as well and they came out badass.... only to later spin out and fuck one up (scratch) so I have to sand the entire sideskirt. It's been primed and still sits in my shed. lol, yeah im riding with just one.... for laziness

blue painters tape ftw. but that green stuff works better that paint shops use. blue leaves some residue sometimes. use razor blade to cut precisely.

im workin on the lip. but what wheels you suggest? once i sell the 17's i got sittin around ill have prob 4-500 to spend on either different rims or for finishing up the engine

whats wrong with my bay? and yeah im thinkin bout suspenion before rims but im wantin koni yellow tops and ground control coilovers.

d16racer88
12-08-2009, 09:52 PM
so i got off my lazy ass and finally took some pics and loaded some pics still havent gotten pics of the final product since everytime i think of doin it its pitch black outside

so this is what i started off with. id suggest only getting one piece of aluminum since thats all i ended up needing to mount it on the trunk floor
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/299/img0509y.jpg

make the stock tie down flat or just fabricate a piece yourself
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/8443/img0510.jpg

edges are pretty sharp if you cut off the stock peice like mine. i just grinded it down
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/3240/img0511zx.jpg

measure and attatch legs. accuracy is critical since if bolt holes dont line up you gotta redrill wich is annoying
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/6628/img0514t.jpg

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/8926/img0515dg.jpg

yeah...this is how i connected my battery wire to the fuse box and i would suggest soldering and heat shrink tubing. i had to go to work so this is my quick fix
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/78/img0516c.jpg

gutted most of the floor to put in new floor harness
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/7930/img0517d.jpg

started doing the headlight harness tuck
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/1834/img0518h.jpg

forgot to take a pic of putting the harness in wheel well. my bad
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/9159/img0519br.jpg

yeah not fun
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/1611/img0520b.jpg

even less fun. the fuckin heater shot the coolant or whatever at me. damn heater
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/9275/img0521z.jpg

yeah...the harness is now in the car if you can see it
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/4562/img0522k.jpg

had to solder the old ebrake sensor wire onto the new harness since the new one was missin one (my fault it wasnt there)
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/2784/img0523ci.jpg

just started the drivers side today. way more complicated since you got the wiper fluid reservoir in the way
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/3940/img0556.jpg

you can see part of the ex harness in!
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/6435/img0557cx.jpg

so it started raining but i couldnt stop working so i made a little hut
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/2852/img0558o.jpg

the hut consisted of a card table and a tarp
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/5790/img0559xw.jpg

when tucking the drivers side id suggest cutting the wires at different lengths to separate different wires. also theres a shit load of red wires so dont get em mixed up since they only got different stripes on em
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/5486/img0560uo.jpg

and a sample of mah work
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/545/img0561mi.jpg

tomorrow ill prob have it all complete and maybe if im smart enough to remember to take a pic or two of the final product ill post that. oh and dont use 16 ga wire like i did. way to big.

d16racer88
12-10-2009, 09:38 PM
haha okay yall i got the final pics and i think it turned out pretty good. forgot to take a pic of the battery in the trunk though :(

so i got this new drill, and it fuckin owns my drill bits. just drilling the hole for the harness to go through the drill broke three drill bits without heating up at all. and it was only thirty bucks =)
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/4164/img0565sb.jpg

started drilling and realized there wasnt just a single layer. there were three! id suggest a pilot hole. makes it easier.
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/3843/img0566yy.jpg

second layer done
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/8012/img0567l.jpg

so when i was cutting the slit i kinda bent the saw blade. just a bit
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/5350/img0568u.jpg

well...i happened to have an exam yesterday and had to tie my bumper up and drive to school while i was in the middle of doing the tuck. yeah. pretty ghetto
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/4007/img0569tm.jpg

so heres how i put the harness into the car efficiently. drilled a hole big enough for the harness to sit in comfortably and then cut a slit so the wires could fit through
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/7813/img0570d.jpg

and the front end is back on
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/1391/img0571uk.jpg

done
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/5025/img0572v.jpg

no harness here
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/7388/img0573q.jpg

no battery or fuse box
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/9615/img0574o.jpg

and the wires i was too lazy to tuck
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/2900/img0575bt.jpg

someone help me out. WHAT THE FUCK does this rubber thing with a single wire go to? btw car is dx if that helps wiring schematics
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/7049/img0576s.jpg

finally got this harness out of the way too!
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/6038/img0577a.jpg

debating on getting rid of this sensor or not. moved the wires to the back today

another view of the dissapearing battery
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/5839/img0579x.jpg

so thats now done so i gotta work on the ex suspension swap. got the ex sway bar, lca's and knuckles and new(ish)cradle. and energy suspension bushings! thanks to mongus. hes quick at shippin btw.

btw i got gsr calipers and im wantin to paint em. im thinkin between gloss black, red, or silver. only problem is i can only find a paint kit thats red and that spray paint comes in the other colors. what yall think. oh and the rims i got im wantin to paint. any color ideas?

i know i know but the quote i got for powdercoating them was 50 a rim. these rims only cost me 120 with the tires. so im painin em since theyll prob be replaced with something better in like a year or two. what about gun metal or...burnt metallic orange :D

01-11-2010, 05:24 PM
Well i havent updated in a while mainly cause christmas affected my budget for parts. So back to building

I finally got a energy suspension master bushing kit and got around to replacing the bushings on my new(ish) ex lower and upper control arms

the easiest and simplest way to get bushings out is to burn em out. very hard to mess this part up. lol
http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/3896/suspension1.jpg

i put one end of the bushing pin into the vice and pulled on the control arm to make the pin come out. worked pretty easy whith the bushing burn real good
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/7236/suspension2.jpg

all i can say is omg i love this torch.best 30 bucks ive ever spent
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/8210/suspension3.jpg

when i finished with torching the bushings and pulling them out i sanded the inside till the metal shined so that i knew all the old bushing was outta there.
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/818/suspension4.jpg

i then used a vice to push the bushing in. the vice wont push the bushing all the way in so i put a piece of wood on the floor and placed the control arm on the wood and hit the bushing the rest of the way in with a mallet
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/953/suspension5.jpg

http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/7568/suspension6o.jpg

placing the wood behind the bushing when pushing the metal pin in helped the bushing keep from getting squished and not letting the pin go all the way in.
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/346/suspension7.jpg

http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/6058/suspension8i.jpg

and....finished
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/7711/suspension9.jpg

http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/394/suspension10.jpg

yep pretty nasty. this conrol arm bout to be visited by extreme makeover
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/959/suspension11.jpg

started off by torching the bushings (forgot to take a pic of it)
http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/2042/suspension12.jpg

then i cut out the metal sleeves. didnt know i had to do this at first and almost ruined the bushings. i used a saw saw with a metal blade and slowly cut the sleeve. once the cut was made all i had to do was tap it out with a screw driver
http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/2991/suspension13.jpg

finsihed removing both
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/3351/suspension14.jpg

yep pretty rusty
http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/8285/suspension15.jpg

BAM! finished
http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/2029/suspension16.jpg

these bushings are way meatier than stock and since they're polyurethane they'll def last longer
http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/7227/suspension17.jpg

next step is to paint the cradle and get it all put in :D

well, i cut the bottom parts off the stock tray to make it flat and then got pieces of aluminum and bent them into C shapes that had 90 degree angles. i then mounted that to the floor of the trunk behind my sub box. ill post some pics tomorrow of it. i just gotta rebuild the sub box now cause of the battery

haha well it wasnt in the way. i tucked the fuse box so i decided to just tuck the battery too. and it looks cleaner since i tucked the headlight harness too. i got some pics on here of what i did to tuck the battery. good luck with the tuck if you do it and remember to get a battery box. thatll save your trunk if your battery ever explodes

started off by reusing the actual wheel since its already painted black (faceplate looks terrible)

So im most likely gonna get some e30 bottle caps. well let me rephrase that. 9 bottle cap rims if the guy still has em all. just wonderin what yall think. should i leave em silver, polish em, or paint em?

Also wonderin if 4 door power locks will work on a 2 door coupe. im tryin to do my full conversion so i can have power locks, power windows, and power mirrors. just need one more window motor and the locks to finish it all. got all the harnesses so thats all thats left. Ill get some pics of the new suspension stuff tomorrow hopefully :D

btw this is what the bottlecaps will most likely look like on my car (minus the drop)

so.....yeah finally got around to workin on my car some and im gettin some fun stuff done. its spring break for me so that means major work gettin done. so far ive gotten the ex door harness(es) in but still need the power locks and power right window and mirrors. so now less talk more pics

got the old nasty fabric off and gettin it prepped for the new stuff
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/4498/14066442.jpg

this stuff so fresh and so clean. i woud suggest gettin it at a fabric store cause its a bit thicker than the stuff at walmart. also i used headliner spray instead of just 3m adhesive spray. way tackier
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/4362/43753796.jpg

almost done with it. gettin everything smoothed out
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/7707/97724337.jpg

its best to cut extra fabric out of the way like this. makes it easier to put bolts in
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/4752/95044835.jpg

best way to get fabric to stretch/stay where the holes are is to wrap it like so on the back
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/6826/94753107.jpg

and done! now to decide if i wanna wrap the pillars or not....

Thanks! Btw I wouldnt wrap it with the checkered material  i have this stretchy black material that i covered my armrest with that i was thinkin of usin on the pillars. but yeah wrappin the pillars with that checkered material would be an overkill.

lookin good. in for updates. and still no pics of the battery? coming along nicely.

oh yeah  well the tuck i did was kinda pathetic but what i plan on doin tomorrow will make up for it. rebuildin the trunk floor so that the battery is dropped between the amps with the amps angled. usin the same checkered material in the area the amps are dropped and normal black carpet eveywhere else. but of course i have yet to do it and it might change up a bit. should i put small blue neons above the amps? i got two 3 inch long neons that im thinkin about putting above the two amps to illuminate them

nice! fiberglass boxes are so nice.

so today i didnt get around to workin on my car cause i had to replace the intake manifold gaskets on my moms 02 ford windstar. all i can say is I FUCKIN HATE WINDSTARS. you have to take the freakin wipers off then take some panel off just to get the top of the manifold off. and then i didnt know coolant was gonna leak into the cylinders so the engine got hydrolocked so i have to empy each cylinder tomorrow morning and then hope that they intake control valve works long enough to order a new one. and thats why I LOVE MY HONDA.

heres a pic of the plans i have for the floor of my trunk. yeah my plans are pretty ghetto

So yeah havent done much work to my car but long story short ive been gettin alot of free time lately. Finally got a big jump on the conversion in my car to all power features. Got the power locks in and waitin to get another window motor and the door controls to finish it all. On another note i got a good bit of tools from the flea market and for my birthday!

all of this is either craftsman or better. :D
http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/9137/dscn1103o.jpg

both these for $14 at the flea market!
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/4330/dscn1096o.jpg

proto punch, craftsman screwdriver and craftsman pliers $5 already got the screwdriver replaced!
http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/553/dscn1105m.jpg

and these two for $3 craftsman also ;)
http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/7153/dscn1107y.jpg

now that ive shown off my toys heres some things ive been workin on

the old nastiness in my car
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/5872/dscn1109b.jpg

had a "newer" set of control arms and put the new bushings in them
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/3919/dscn1110a.jpg

def alot beefier than stock. they just squeak alot when first put in....
http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/593/dscn1111h.jpg

easiest way to bolt it back up is to jack it up
http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/8457/dscn1112w.jpg

done! much cleaner and way nicer
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/500/dscn1113qe.jpg

when gettin new exhaust the choice is to always replace the cat too. well imo the only cat to buy is this megan racing one. the thing is built like a tank and way quieter than them ebay ones.
http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/1728/dscn1115s.jpg

http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/6783/dscn1116f.jpg

power locks installed. if you dont know dx models have no power features soo im installin all of em myself. so first is these locks and then for the windows. the only hard part is puttin in the floor harness. but now that thats done its all fairly easy. the door handles are simple to take off but kinda tricky the first time puttin back on cause of the pin in em :x
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/9218/dscn1118l.jpg

Enjoy! and soon to come will be the finished trunk and finished power conversion!

hahaha so true. i took it to sears and the guy at the desk kinda stared at it and then said "wow um you def need another screw driver" My friends dad decided to use a snap on screw driver as a punch even though the screwdriver clearly states "this is not a punch or a pry bar" and he got his screw driver lookin somethin like that. lol

haha thanks. i just cant wait till im done with it all. and i cant wait to get me another amp

Is it hard to do that battery relocate stuff....

yes and no. its easy to relocate the battery but no its not easy to relocate the fuse box. you have to remove the heater core to remover the harness to the fuse box which is fairly simple if you know alot about civics but if the most youve done on a civic is change the brakes and change the fluids id look up the manual and start early in the morning on everything.

soooooooo im really bored and not very sober. might as well put up some updates!!!!
after putting in the d16y8 5000 miles later i got really bad rod knock and got my car towed home. found out piston three was slapping and knocking. so this time i decided that honda should build me a block instead of buying another motor off craigslist. 600 bucks later i had a fully rebulit shortblock from honda thanks to my best friend and the fact that his dad works at honda. the head off the second blown engine was put on this new motor due to the fact that all the parts in it were mechanically sound.
about a month later i decided to get a dc sport header because i found one for 100 bucks on craigslist. gives me literally no extra power but looks alot nicer. lol
during the engine swap i also added a viper alarm during the down time of waiting on the engine builder to finish. also added a voltage guage, oil temp, and oil pressure guage. all in my custom reapolstered dashboard ;)

NOW after finally getting 2 tickets dismissed (without having to pay a penny might i add) ive finally ordered some suspension for my car. Koni Str. T struts and D2 springs. should be here next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know this is an update without pichers but tomorrow there shall be plenty since im off work. just decided to update while i was bored and had time to write all this crap out. so dont hate you mofos :D

theyre sitting in a box under my bed :( when my second engine blew i still didnt have all the parts i needed to build the block the way i wanted so i had to just get it freshened up so that i could get my car back on the road. soon i might have a high compression engine in my car. for now though im concentrating on suspension and brakes. then onto the motor. koni yellows will be here on tues!!!!! yeah i upgraded from strt struts on koni yellows. i think itll be worth the extra 222 bucks

i personally hate the 96-98 tails except on green and red civics. the 50/50 tails look cleaner and simpler imo. and since i got the 50/50's for 40 bucks in mint condition, i cant complain :D

so i finally got around to lowering my civic once the koni yellows came in the mail. i gotta say, whoever designed the things is a genious! i love the fact that you can set the mounting point for the spring on the strut.

set the front struts to the lower mounting point since the front wasnt as low as the rear

dont think i could be any happier with this stance! the rear sits a tad higher than the front which is perfect imo. ride is really stiff but not bouncy which i lovee

Thanks! only thing i hate is backing out of my driveway and scraping my front lip :( im bout to just take it off and replace it with a cheap ebay one (since this one is real carbon fiber).

since ill be throwin on some ebay lips, im thinkin bout gettin funky with the paint. what if i painted the lips to look like caution tape???? i like stylin outside of the box :D

Im kinda stumped at the moment. Im gonna be purchasing new internals for the extra motor that im building up. Its gonna be for boost, but the boost will be in the form of a supercharger. Im wanting to do a mildly high compression build for now, get that tuned, and then move on to installing the supercharger. With that being said would CP forged pistons and eagle rods be ideal? and im debating between 10.5:1 or 11.0:1. the reason for doing higher compression is because the supercharger is further down the road than the engine build. I have no interest in putting a turbo on this since its my dd and i have no insane power goals. Any input is welcome on helping choose the right internals for this engine. It will also be juiced before the supercharger, but it wont be any more than a 30 or 40 shot. thanks!!

i recommend supertech forged 10.5:1 CR pistons. i used them in my build and they are great!

edit: also, they are coated and cost less than many other forged pistons

how many miles have you put on your engine and are you n/a or boosted? just curious how your motors runnin since you built it.

soooo have a few updates and more to come now that school is over for the semster. Started my own repair buisness for some extra cash on the side and I was suprised how quickly it grew! I literally have to hand jobs off to my coworkers (since i still work at Auto Zone). But onto the fun stuff.
Finally got a few more parts, nothing too fancy. Still need to reweld my test pipe so that I can install my bisomoto header. And this weekend i get to have fun swapping out my transmission since i blew reverse out last night. I didnt realize how much I relied on reverse until today when i had to keep pushing my car out of parking spots.....
onto pictures of the latest ive done today!

i have to say that your build has inspired me greatly. i have a 97 civic hx that ive done a few things to already but got a few speeding tickets to pay off before i buy any major parts. done my valve cover, put in some hid's, replacing all fuses, all filters, running new fully synthetic oil through it, etc nothing major yet, but will be starting my build thread very very soon. again, your car looks amazing and the build thread was very inspirational. thank you for posting it =)
