My little Civic use to be fab on miles but for some reason over the last couple of weeks its gotten terrible.....
Its gone from doing around 350+ miles to to a tank to doing less than 250.

My car is the 1995 std 1.4 hatchback and so far, has only had an upgrade on the exhaust and wheels.
Everything was fine and the MPG was pretty cool up until a few weeks ago. I spend 99% of my driving life on motorways and i've no leaks, spills or funny smells.....

If anyone could give me some advice that would be brilliant. This is my first Civic and i'm a bit lost as to what might be up. The problem occured literally overnight, and i've not had any knocks, bumps or accident.

Thanks, Katie x

First of all...:welcome: And a few things you can do are change your distributor cap, rotor, and spark plugs......Also run some Lucas fuel injector treatment through your gas tank, and check your tire pressure...

:welcome: Also, check your oil and other fluids.

it could also be your o2 sensor. a bad o2 sensor could make your car run more lean or too rich. if its running lean you will lose power but get better gas milage. if its running rich your gaining power but getting worse gas mileage. so i would get that checked out too if i were you.

Thank you so much for the advice everyone :D

I have checked the tyres recently and they seem to hold their PSI and the distributor cap and rotor arm were replaced about 18 months ago.

I'll definitely be getting under the bonnet this weekend to try and find the problem!

Thanks for the warm welcom too :D

7 - 9 months? Blimey, that seems alot as most people leave then at least 12 months and I always buy Honda or BOSCH parts

Powere wise its rubbish now, it can't do steep hills in anything other than 1st and just seems to be loosing fuel and power now.

Plugs and everything like that have been done and I have no leaks (inside or outside) the car.
I did get pre-warned that these car's are known for either running sweet or dying quickly so maybe it just time for the car to be traded in.......

How old are the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor?

Have you checked the ignition timing?

Plugs and wires are less than 3 months old (BOSCH parts) cap and rotor brand new when fitted and that was around 12 months ago.

Having looked around, most people seem to think it has something to do with the O2 sensor.

The cap and arm are fine - i've had them tested

Have you checked for trouble codes?

Have you checked for trouble codes?

I havent actually no, thats a good idea - might make the searching a bit easier.

I'll have to go to a local garage and get them to plug it in for me. All of my friends are German car fans so only have VAG Com to hand.

We worked out that my fuel consumption is around 20 MPG now instead of the usual 35 +
My car now has the same fuel consumption as an Audi RS4 :(
