guitar beautification advice

I'm going to be selling my Fender Bass guitar soon. I want to bring back that new look before posting pics on ebay. I just polished the neck with some orange glo 4-1 stuff. I'm thinking about buffing the guitar to take out the minor scratches. I have rubbing compound, polishing compound, meguirar's scratch x, etc. Does anyone have any cosmetic advice for this job. Thx

probably lacquer over ash wood. Just use a very mild polish compound. fender actually makes one that i've used in the past.

What year Fender is it? What $$ are you trying to get out of it? American or MIM?

honestly, if you have a guitar repair shop in your area, I'd go there. (if the guitar is worth the money, I assume a jazz bass? and the finish is that bad.)

other than that, go to a guitar center or sam ash and ask. they sell all of the restoring products and will show you how to do it properly.

To be honest I'm not sure what year it is. I acquired this guitar from my friend by winning a bet. It has been laying around for about two years. I haven't even played it, I don't know anything about guitars either. To answer your question; I have no Idea how much this thing is worth. I was going to start the auction at $29 + $29 shipping fees.

Thanks for this info, I wonder if some shop can make it look brand new for me. It needs to get tuned anyway, maybe I can get it certified before I put it up for auction?

Oh dude it's a Squire....I wouldn't spend my time or effort taking it to a shop or anything. Just clean it and sell it, most people who will buy a Squire are not going to be nit picking.

those go for about $200 new, if you polish it up, you might get 80-100 out of it.

what he said...squier is an entry level guitar that is made by fender (this particular one in indonesia). Just clean it up a bit and sell it. if it doesnt have any noisy pots or pickups you'll get about $75ish for it. list it as a squier p bass, not a fender. good luck with sale.

if my squier serial number knowledge is correct i believe this to be a 1996 model p bass.

also, if its out of tune, please please please do NOT pay a shop to tune it. Especially if you arent even playing it.

Anyone who buys it will tune it themselves. When I practice of play a show, I probably tune my guitar 5-6 times in an hour. its that easy. dont pay for it ;)
