Well I picked up a new daily driver/project car for myself. I wanted something RWD, has potential, and isn't a Honda lol. So, I picked this baby up for 1200$ even. Clean title, paint was faded but I already buffed it and it's shining like crazy now. Only problem is the clutch was slipping like HELL. So, I had it towed and I'm waiting for my clutch and passenger mirror to get in.

Whoa! If u went a few years newer it would've come with a Nardi wheel and knob lol

Nice man, cant wait to see what you do with this...soooo many available parts, congrats

Very nice man!

FM isn't too far from you either, plans?

Road Pirate
05-13-2010, 02:47 PM
Thanks a lot fellas! I'll be upgrading to a Nardi wheel and knob soon enough haha.

My current plans:
Clutch
Mirror
Stance coilovers
wheels (not sure yet)
cage
OEM front and rear lip

I want to compete in some auto-X events so we'll see how it does haha.

Whats FM?

hooked_on4
05-13-2010, 02:52 PM
flying Miata is based not far from you.

full cage or rollbar?

If you want to build this solely for AutoX i'd go over SCCA rules and pick what class you want to compete in. A full cage may put you in a higher class than a rollbar.

And it will do fantastic in Autox, my bone stock 1999 ran even w/a b16 swapped hatch, full suspension etc.

Road Pirate
05-13-2010, 02:55 PM
Yeah sorry, I meant roll bar. Do you have any thoughts about Hard Dog roll bars? They look like they good stuff.

And ahhh I gotcha. I'm new to the Miata, let alone Mazda scene haha.

And yeah, my friend races them in the Miata Spec class races in CA, he LOVES it. I watched some of his in-car vids and it made me want to get one haha.

hooked_on4
05-13-2010, 03:00 PM
yeah hard dog or bossfrog, you can't really go wrong, some hardogs are SCCA approved, all bossfrogs are I think.

I'm gonna pick up a bossfrog in the next month hopefully

05-13-2010, 03:37 PM
Bheims, hell yeah! It's more fun than my EM1 which is sad haha.

And nice! I eventually want to turbo the stock motor. I heard they're fun as hell and hold boost very well. But probably not till much later, I want to focus on the body, suspension and interior first haha.

Gave it its first coat of wax.
http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w340/VotionInd/DSCN8773.jpg

And this was yesterday, next to my EM1

http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w340/VotionInd/DSCN8767.jpg

I seriously don't think the owners ever waxed or even washed the car for that matter. The paint was so faded and nasty. The wax is definitely helping it though. I did the first coat yesterday with rubbing compound and it brought it back to life, so lets hope the wax finishes it off.

BTW you take the pass mirror off?

Road Pirate
05-13-2010, 03:48 PM
Thanks man! Yeah the body/motor/interior is why I jumped on the deal. For 1200$, I got a great condition and running car, all it needed is a clutch.

Oh and the passenger mirror was missing ever since the previous owner had it, so I bought another one and its on its way

Yea I know, I had a POS V6 Camaro that I was just fixing up to get it road worthy, it was still fun working on a car like that though. I definitely plan on getting one once I have the money. Cant decide what I want though lol, so many different directions Im considering going in.

Yeah I hear ya. Camaro's are pretty fun to work on also. If you got a Miata I know you won't regret it! I love mine and I've barely driven it haha. They're just fun as hell to work on and drive.

Well got some progress on it, pulled the trans out. Definitely wasn't use to them being so big considering all I've ever owned is Honda's haha.

Yeah for sure haha. You could never get a decent setup for less than 600$ for a Honda IMO, and I'm sure the FM ones are great. The car will be daily driven, but also tracked. So I need something thats stiff, but not stupid stiff to be breaking my back. haha

They're good stuff, just a bit too expensive. I'm trying not to go over a grand right now haha.

From what I heard there are many people who buy basics then sell em and want flexes, FM-Vmaxxes are out? What about Stance?

Do you know why that is? Too soft? Too hard? Not enough adjustability? The FM-Vmaxx's are out as of now, but they have a new container coming in beginning-mid June I believe. I was just never heard an actual review on them unless it was by a FM owner/employee.

I just know Tein has a good reputable setup for almost every car out there, and my friend ordered his a week ago, so we will be installing them on his NA and I will see how I like them. I like Stance coils but again, a bit too expensive haha.

Well I was going to post more pics of the car with the NB wheels, buuut...for some reason everywhere I go to upload an image (imageshack, photobucket, flickr) it cant upload them....wtf...

hooked_on4
05-25-2010, 02:41 PM
yeah I can't remember why exactly might be too soft, there's a few threads on clubroadster that mention that. And yeah i did only hear one review from a non-fm employee as he got a test lap at Leguna Seca but I predict hawtness.

Stance you can get em under 1k new if you look hard enough or right around that.

Nah, I never planned on doing the woodgrain, but I was going to have the nardi wheel that is installed now with my Nardi knob, but I didn't like the knob in the car, so I'm still looking for something else.

And yeah, color matched looks pretty dope, but I kinda like the contrast. We'll see once I get more into the build if I decide to color match it :)

Thanks homie! Coilovers come in today and will be installed. Drilled/slotted brake rotors will hopefully be in today also, Raceland header comes in tomorrow.

Also ordered a tune up kit that comes with NGK wires and NGK plugs, Mazda fuel filter, oil filter, air filter, and a pcv valve with grommet. Also bought a 3" shifter extender with a single bend in it. Should be pretty sick

Overall, I'm very happy with the Racelands. They didn't impress me when I got them, but the ride quality is actually very good. Some extended top hats are definitely a must in the future though. The car rides wonderful on regular streets, doesn't kill me when i hit bumps, just on the highway its a little worse but still nothing unbearable. For 276$, its money well spent for sure.

Overall, very happy with the header! Fit PERFECT, no clearance issues or flanges not lining up. The only thing is, the 02 bung on the Raceland header was much further down, so I had to extend the 02 wire, which wasn't that big of a deal. Definitely gave the car more torque in the low range which is what I wanted! Let me know what you guys think!

Not a huge fan of the wheels on the Miata, I think they looked better on the EM1. And the header provided with more low-end torque? Surprising as a 4-2-1 header should normally help out the top-end.

Well keep in mind its a stock bodie'd Miata with some wheels on there. I'm not even close to being done with the exterior lol. It may flow better when I get it all done.

And yeah, it did give more low end from what I've experienced. I don't rev over 5k in this car, so who knows about the top end ;)

So well put:

You absolutely cannot deny the feeling of the wind blowing in your hair, a cosmic amount of headroom, and of course the nostalgic stylings inspired from the Lotus Elan. Or it could be the constant peppy tune carried by the engine, singing it's way past seven thousand rpm, always waiting to receive more, and begging for it when you don’t give it harder! Or it could be the chassis that whispers in your ear with sweet nothings. Titillating with the idea of hugging a curve, kissing an apex, or tightening your grip for that dip ahead. Or, it could be that this car just loves to stick its hand into the neither regions of your pants and does as it pleases --every time you turn the key. This is roadster life. It changes the way you live your daily life, how you drive, and the people you hang out with.

You can go pretty low, but it all depends on what suspension your on. I'm on Racelands, and they handle very well for the ride height I'm at. but I'm sure if I was a tad higher, they'd ride better.

Well, we basically have a warehouse. We specialize in aftermarket turbo supplies/accessories. All the DIY products you really need for any turbo project. We don't exactly run a shop or anything, its all internet-based. And everything we sell is universal, so no specific car.

And as far as the builds, I just budget, I don't make a whole lot of money, but I make a budget and I sell anything and everything I can to fund parts for my car. I guess I just do it quickly! haha.

I'm still deciding to be honest. I'm not sure if I eventually want to boost, or do a ITB setup. Boost would make more sense at this altitude, but don't want to be pushing too much HP to be hitting sideways every turn in auto-X.

So I'm not sure haha, I may go 1.8 in the future, but for now I will most likely just do an intake setup, I already have a header, and then get an exhaust system.

Haha thanks man!

yeah the mazda intake box is very effective, MAF adapter and filter is the same, best bet is to get a good drop i filter, but I've even read arguments that their only benifit is longevity and the best power comes from a clean paper filter.

Yes sir! I love the way they look on Miata's. They're SUPER heavy, so unfortunately I won't be using them for the track, (maybe a few events) but I'd like to pickup a set of RPF1's for the track.

For the Diamonds I'll be going with:
Pro Series
15X8 with 4.5" backspace (0 offset)
and probably stretch some 195's on there, but maybe I'll go with some 205's.

To be honest, there's not really much of a difference in the two sizes lol. 205's still are stretched, it all depends on how low I go. The only reason why I'd go with 195s is because I already have a set lol, but I do like the 205's on his, so I'll probably get those.

And nah, they look good on certain cars but not on mine. Diamond is winnnnnnnn.

06-24-2010, 03:45 PM
Why wouldn't I get some Diamond Racings? They're super cheap, heavy, strong, custom sizes and colors available, and they look great on Miata's. They would be perfect for the street out here, and my daily driving uses :thumbs up

And yeah, I'll have two different setups, one for track, and one for street. Another reason why I'd like to do this is, 1 set with hard tires for the daily use on my heavy wheels so I can look good, while also having a strong wheel and hard tires that will last.

The second set will most likely be the RPF1's, which are much lighter, and I can get a nice soft tire for track use only. This helps me both ways :) Plus its just fun having more than 1 wheel setup haha.

And yeah I will most likely be driving it in the winter IF it will do okay. If not, I will most likely pick something cheap up like a truck or something. I know the hardtop will be MUCH better in the winter months, but believe me, I'm searching for good deals on one! haha.
