My brothers friend is selling a B16a2 block off of his Si the engine is smoking right now so he wants to take it apart and just sell the block. Is it worth buying and rebuilding? If so what would be a good price for the block if it is in that condition? Thanks for the help!

I've seen B blocks needing work for $100 out here in Cali. I have no interest in building a B swap, though, so I keep right on looking for my D16 parts.

Before you buy it, bring it to a machine shop, or someone who knows engines, and get a diagnosis on it. Make sure it's nothing terrible. Chances are if it's smoking, he beat the piss out of it.

sounds to me there might be a warp
if your getting a b16a2 block with another vtec head is not going to make any differences because b16 has one of the best head <--- LOL but yea best to stick b16 head or if you want PR-3 type R head it will make only a bit difference.
