I understand the installation of a kill switch. has anyone thought about designing some sort of push button type kill switch that kills say the full pump or ignition and have in in the face of your detachable radio when the face plate is not in the car power is interuppted to the pump or ignit. and when you put the face in the button is pressed in and the pum/ or ignit. has power. I am trying to make another kill switch for added security since I am moving to an apartment soon.

Nice idea, but something tells me it require a lot of work or wouldn't work. I could be wrong...
It could theoretically work. But have you ever noticed that when you turn on your car.... the cd player face is the last thing to come on? That is what makes me think it wouldn't work. You could probably cut the wire on the harness and place a switch in there. If you wired up a switch that had to have some type of key in it to complete the circuit then that might work. Think of it like a key on a removable hard drive..... unless the key is turned to the lock positon... the drive won't boot (car won't start).

How about getttin a quick release hub and putting a back up battery and have dual sirens on your alarm system, that way if they wanted the car they cant drive it and if they wanted parts off the car, lets say they pop open the hood and disconnect the battery, your back up small battery would still power the alarm and if the cut the obvious siren wire you have the back up siren underneath the car, that should be a good enough theft deterrant ... if i was a thief i wouldnt want to mess with that =D

basically, what you're thinking of is an electrical switch that is operated with a key, in this case the "key" is your face plate. You need to insert the key to enable the fuel pump. It's an interesting concept, but im sure a switch operated with a key:
key-switch (http://www.happcontrols.com/driving/50600300.htm)
and
key-switch 2 (http://www.arun-electronics.co.uk/key_switch.htm)
is more practical. The main problem is, the keyhole would have to be fairly easy to access for you and therefore probably in plain sight. Then all the theif has to do is rip it out manually complete the circuit.

If it's anything secondary such as a stereo, forget it, because when the starter is engaged, all secondary accessory functions lose power.
I'm not sure, but he mihgt be just talkig about a switch that has nothing electrically in common with the CD player. It would just be the location for the switch. If there were a way to run a seperate line to the CD player that only has to do with the kill switch.
Hell, wire it into the lock for your trunk and gas door release. You wouldn't be able to lock them, but it would sure be a non-obvious type of key lock kill switch. Probably keep them confused for quite some time.
Yeah, someone was telling me that a friend of their's had gotten a remote trunk pop and turned the trunk popper in the car into a push/pull type of deal. So the car could only started if the latch was pushed down or pulled up. I forget which way he said it was set up.

I had a car in here for service that had a starter cutout relay wired to the dimmer switch. You had to flash the high beams before you could start it. Pretty good idea except if a thief cased your car out he'd know that you flashed your highbeams before starting your car.

Now that I think about it just wire your starter cut relay to be activated by your head-unit accessory (amp remote) wire. That way you don't have to gut your nice head unit

Well the remote-turn on is active even without the faceplate in place, on my head-unit at least. And I know my headunit shuts off when the key is in the start position. The high beams thing is a good idea, but of course then you have to flash the high beams as was said..
How about the car only starts with the clutch in and the gear selector in reverse. I know the car can sense reverse because it knows when to put the reverse lights on.. Or 5th for that matter, the car must sense 5th because it only activates the speed limiter in top gear..

The12volt.com - HIGHLY informational site. Ive learned half the things I know from that site. They even have a diagram on how to wire up a relay so that you have to press the cig lighter to start your car (Gotta search for that post though). I know for sure they have a diagram so that you have to honk your horn before you start your car.
