I was trying to change the fuel filter to my car, and due to rust and poor tools, the fuel line that connects to the bottom of the fuel filter broke below the fuel filter thread....so yeah i was screwed....i couldnt replace it because since the line broke the threaded part was still in the filter. So what i did then was break off the fuel line from the top in a similar fashion and got rid of the filter all together. I remembered seeing that GM cars has fuel filters that just had two ends with hoses going into it on each on from the fuel line, so i went to autozone and asked for a fuel filter that fit the description. the dude at autozone finally grabbed a filter for i think its a mercury mountaineer that looked like what i wanted. I figured a fuel filter is a filter and all it does is filters gas. So i got some hoses and some clamp rings and adapted teh filter to the civic. However, since then i feel like my gas mileage isnt as great. I cant get an exact read b/c teh g/f drives teh car too sometimes and usually just adds gas before i can get a reading from the trip meter and try to calculate the mileage I am getting. Do you guys think the filter is affecting the gas mileage or am i just paranoid. Maybe i should get a similar filter that was made for like a sedan instead of an SUV? anyone ever had this happen to them? any input or suggestions are appreciated.
