Hello, I am new to the world of Civic's and I'd like to know what I would need to swap a VX engine & transmission into a CX. I don't have any sort of performance in mind obviously, just MPG.

I assume......

- Drivetrain
- ECU
- Main engine harness (for vtec-e) ?

Anything else?

you dont really need a new harness. you can just run a single wire for vtec. (btw welcome) and (its VTEC) ;) you dont have to swap the tranny. by the way again you live down the road from me. im in rocklin.
d-sieries into a d car is not a problem they are cake.

He's wrong. it IS VTEC-E (economy vtec).
You don't need much at all to swap in the d15z1 motor. In fact, you can even leave your current transmission in there, as it bolts up directly. Just unbolt the CX motor, bolt in the VX motor, run a single wire from the ECU to the VTEC solenoid on the motor, and you're golden. You wont need ANYTHING from the VX car except for the ECU. Drivetrain is the same, harness is the same, but the motor and ECU are different. This swap can be done in less than an hour.

Great! Thanks for the info guys. Does anyone have any recommendations for where to buy a D15Z1? I know of ATARCO locally but just wondering if anyone knows of any deals or any places that they have had a good experience with.

i have a friend local. he is cheap and great work. i think he fixed the first post because it used to say vtech that is why i did that.

Ok, one more question, besides the head and compression ratio, are there any other differences between the D15B8 and the D15Z1? It looks to me like it is just compression and the VTEC-E valvetrain.

The D15Z1 has an oil cooler system. Pretty wicked in fact. I wanted to put one on my Z6, but my friend wouldn't let me tear up his extra Z1 in his garage.

I have a complete vx engine just sitting. It has 200,00 on it, but still runs strong. If your interested, or need parts off it, lemme know. I really dont want to ship the whole motor, but might consider shipping the head or something.

PS, whats with the oil cooler. I have the d16z6 in my car now, and might wanna put that in there.

PS, whats with the oil cooler. I have the d16z6 in my car now, and might wanna put that in there.

The oil cooler keeps your oil temps lower. It uses the exhisting liquid cooling system and reroutes a portion of the coolant to the cooler. Your oil system runs thru the cooler before/after going thru the oil filter.

I would not recommend doing this unless your engine was out of the car. You need to replace the PCV chamber, water pipe, and oil filter stud.

In order to install this you'll need to take your thermistat housing out, water pipe, oil filter, filter stud, and IM bracket if you still have it on. Not a very fun thing if you're trying to squeeze between the axle, firewall, and lower frame. If you have an aftermarket T fitting for your oil pressure sending unit, it will not work anymore. The oil cooler for the most part requires that you relocate your aftermarket sending units. The stock sending unit should be fine if you don't have an aftermarket temp/press. gauge.

okay i swapped a d15z1 into an 93 si

you need the main floor harness becasue the wiring harness thats for the vx motor has 4 plugs by the battery

i dont have the shock tower harness which has the plug and vacuum diaphrams

but the rest of the wiring in the car is specifically for the vx d15z1 motor

i cant get it to time right...or run right, and the ecu isnt throwing any egr codes or anything?

the car was timed with the piggyback in the ecu plug by the glovebox, you know how you are suposed to time a car and it times to the farthest mark on the crank gear

|__|__|_______|

it times to the mark on the far right, when it is suposed to time in between the three on the left

anyone?

i am thinking of shaving out the dizzy so i can just rotate it more

let me know if anyone has any ideas....

Holy shit i can't beleive you want a vx motor. Seriously i had a vx motor, and you don't want one. Just stick with the cx motor. vx o2 sensors are $400 from factory, and $175 on ebay!! Its not a very good swap even for mpg

Thread is old and I am sure that within 2 years he has either done it or not. Actually what makes the VX so good on mpg is also to do with the transmission. Longer gearing
