View Full Version : what do you guys think of a 94 lx with auto to manual vx swap?
ok so a friend of mine has a 94 lx 4 door that she blew up (blown headgasket and it overheated) and the car is just sitting there, so she said she would let it go cheap like 3 or 4 hundred. Its an automatic with over 200k on it.
Anyways, what i would like to do is either just drop another dx motor in it and then sell it and make some money, plus id get a learning experience out of it.
Or id like to convert the car from automatic to manual, and drop in a civic vx, vtec-e motor (whats the engine code?) There is someone local selling a complete vx swap with ecu, tranny, motor, etc for $300. This motor is capable of over 40mpg highway.
What all would be involved in the auto to manual and the vx swap ... the reason im considering this is if you havent noticed gas is hella expensive, and im leaving for college about 6 hrs north of home probably spring 2007 if i stop failing math.
With integras getting stolen so much, i wouldnt mind having something a little more low profile while im in school, i figure i can always buy another integra when i get out, i dont have that much money invested in mine i can probably sell it for about 5k which is what i got it for.
If i pick up this 4 door it will be unregistered non op till i swap it, and get it running ... at which point i will either sell and make a little bit of money on, or keep for economical reasons.
Let me know what you guys think. Ive never swapped anything, ive helped people do swaps just passing tools but i dont have that much experience.
Oh and smog isnt a problem if i do the vx motor, so dont worry about that, humboldt county which is where the college is in has no smog requirements.
good god now i know why everyone hates all the people who post mostly on the lounge ... i ask something serious and i get absolutly no response ... off to honda tech i go hopefully i dont get flamed too bad.
Im going to go look at the car on tuesday morning, cause i was supposed to look at it today (sunday) but the girl wasnt awake when i called her up.

Id just do the dx motor swap your could probably get a pretty penny for that car if it had a good motor

I think it would be nice. Those things are HELLA piss slow.. and not my style. The interiors are just a little more awkward for me, being different than the coupe/hatches.
We put my old motor (d15b7 from a DX auto) into a 1992 4 door, and its fucking SLOW. Like... I could almost never drive it because it CANNOT keep up or do what it needs to do in traffic. Getting on on ramps, flooring it has problems and shit, and it serious takes teh patience of knowing you have a piss slow car and knowing you'll have to make adjustments with your driving.
The swaps should be easy. I've seen a ton of my friends do the D series tranny swap. The D trannies are light, and we dropped my friends for his clutch and pretty much had one guy hold the whole thing and carry it. They are pretty cheap too.
Around here you could swap the entire thing over for like 300-400 bucks or something. Just need pedal assembly, tranny, all the necessary shit both ways. If you guys have a junkyard / parts place, they are fantastic. We have 2 "junkyards" here around Omaha that are IMPORT ONLY... so both have pretty much everything you'd ever need. We just call one up all the time for any stupid bracket or pedal assembly for a Honda and they have it.
But yeah... I think it would be a good ass idea for a daily / gas efficient car. Will be a Honda... won't look TOO bad, has room to haul shit and people, nice motor, and D's are a dime a dozen so with small amounts of money you could change it up and do different stuff.

And something I overlooked... if you go to sell it, I think its a good idea for profit, granted you can get the shit done with all necessary parts fairly cheap. When my friend put my old motor into the 4 door, he did it to sell off. $1100 shell, Super cheap for parts because we kept it auto, he had my motor for free, just some parts to get it running and shit... and sell it for like $2500 +
well i did a little more research last night and the vx motor is slow as fuck its only got 92 hp ... so id want an hx motor which is 115 hp. Plus the local guy who had the vx swap sold it.
it looks like all the auto to manual parts are gonna run like $400 ... then id just have to have my friend help me put it in ... so plus the cost of the shell i could probably do the full hx swap with manual trans for $1200 or so.
Anyways i havent decided ... i found a 93 d15b7 that "ran good when it was pulled out" for $200 so i would have a car that runs for about 700 and could sell for like 2500.
Ill just have to see how clean this shell is when i look at it tommorow... a lot of shells out here are all stripped or fucked up .... this is just a car that blew up they havent been sellin parts off it or anything dumb like that.

Drop a D15B7 in it and roll. Make it a beater and store the 'teg in a safe place
D15B7 should still get 30-35 mpg :what: Going to class/work/whatever... get a voltage inverter and a boombox for a stereo and roll the LX :lol: Nothing worth stealing and the thieving bastards will move on

I did that with my Swift and my Prelude. the only downside is you got to pay for 2 cars insurance.
i hate auto tranny hondas though ever since my old accord started going out
but yea thats not a bad idea either ... im starting to think neigh on the hx swap ... im having a hard time locating a motor and being as this would be my first swap ever i think ill go with something simple like just dropping in another dx motor.

The Auto D15B7 = still much faster then VX D15Z1 5spd With 90 hp & final drive of 3.25.. plan on leaving the house early if you want to be somewhere on time
yea im prety much scrappin the vx idea
hx is only gonna happen if i find a hella cheap d16y5 motor and trans which isnt gonna happen
so d15b7 and ill decide later if i keep the car or not.

well i just bought it im gonna go get it later, it still runs so hopefully it can make it the 5 miles across town to my house if i take it easy. Its that purple color with 221k on it but hella $250 i aint complainin ... dmv was bein gay though they wouldnt issue me a title till i smog it but the tags on the car are good till jan 07 so whatever i have till then to find a d15b7 and swap it in ... car is in fairly good condition has some dents ill take some pics later for sure ... i might keep it for myself when i go away to college and sell my integra for reasons i mentioned earlier.
oh and i found a motor for $300 imma go get it tommorow.

nah its a 4 door. lmao worst color ever my friend had this exact same car when we were in high school we used to beat the shit out of it.
