that's a good price. i wanted to try mac coz i've been thinking of getting a new laptop (i'm still using my PIII laptop) and i just think it's time for an upgrade, especially with this intel duo technology. this is kinda stupid... but is mac better that a pc?

good luck with that buddy, the PBG4 has been discontinued now that the intel chip has taken over and its all macbook systems now... i mean you can still buy them. . . used lol.

yeah i also ordered the 12" iBook G4 for my lady on my discount.. got that ibook g4 with a 60gig harddrive upgrade and an airport extreme for $1,000 :)

this is kind of a personal preference... there are things that i dont like in macs that i likein windows and visa versa... overall though.. i have been a windows users all my computer life till i started working @ apple.. i love mac platform now.. MUCH MUCH better

I think the PPC will still be around for a while. I would have thought about buying a Powerbook G4 just to pick a cheap mac. Still a great computer.

But I already have a PB/iBook/Mini all PPC. So the more i thought about it I will just wait.

What revision are the on with the Macbook Pro? Also do you know when the Macbook will be released? I heard June, of course thats all just rumors....

Thats not gonna happen, sorry to say. Apple was getting their PowerPC processors through IBM... IBM did not want to do extensive R&D for newer faster processors because they were trying to do whatever it is that IBM is still around for. . . this is why we swtiched to Intel processors, they're market = ONLY processors.. so they got all the time in the world to R&D a better processor, its what they do... take a look at the apple store.. only thing you'll seethat is NEW with a powerPC is ibooks (which will soon has intel chips) and only the PBG4 12" is left .. and the powermac g5... all these soon replaced by intels :)

still the same version of macbooks out... um.. i think you might have missed a word or two in this question but. . . the macbook pro has BEENout lol... but i think your referring to .. the replacement of the PBG4 12".. i heard they might make a 13" now.. not sure about any of this.. to be honest i dont find out till the public finds out (the official anyway)

Doh I ment to say PPC support. Wont effect me much since most of the stuff I use is open source. And I was talking about the Macbook not the Macbook Pro. The replacement for the iBook.

The Macbook should be out in the next few weeks. I read an article (somewhere on digg.com ) that some Apple retail stores were receiving display shipments labeled "Do No Open Until XX/XX/XX". I can't remember the date at the moment.

As for the Macbook Pros, i hope you're ready to cook an egg on your lap. Those things have been NOTORIOUS for getting damn near nuclear. The powerbooks were bad enough, but I've read that the macbook pros are even worse with their heat management.

regardless, i still want one

EDIT: http://thinksecret.com/news/0605briefly2.html macbook is out tomorrow in black and white versions. :D

I love digg.com, waste to much time there. Whats your Digg username? im TsuaSai.

Back to topic though. I have too heard all kinda of terrible stories about the MBP getting super hot. Probably so they can sale more icurves ;) Someone also made a chillpak for MBPs or just laptop in general.

icurves aren't made by us lol... so we really have no "incentive" to try and sell it hardcore

macbook pros getting hawt yes it's an issue but not on EVERY single one shipped out... i have lots of 'captures' about it.... but i can't share it unforunately

Yeah when I switch to the Apple world I didn't sell my PC. The point of my switch was to be on a linux/unix based os. So I just turned it in a linux media center and set it up as my server.

So are you a GUI guy or you do much the command line? I use a little of both most of the time I have about 5 terminals open.

Declectic

um.. still learning my way around the mac platform... i never touched mac till i started working here, so i'm still learning.. but most of the command lines u use in the terminal i'm familier with via Linux :)

for the customers on the phone, we gotta go with GUI (unless it involves booting into open firmware. . )

I use a little of everything. I just depends. But I can play music download torrents all that kinda stuff for the command line, If you can use linux its really all the same.

Same username as almost everywhere on the net, Coven. I've only been "digging" for a couple days now. I lurked for months though.
