I have an interest in bikes and I feel maybe some of the other members do as well, so why not talk about them. Post up pics of bikes you like / want / own / ect ...
I'll start it off.

My favorite bike was my GSF400 Bandit and I'm over 6'2" and weigh about 190.
http://www.forum-auto.com/uploads/200409/high_octane_1095112098_bandit_400b.jpg
Air-oil-liquid cooled naked GSXR400 motor. Stiff tubular frame. Light weight. Handled like it was on rails
It ran 7.6 in the 1/8th and destroyed CBR600s on the cloverleaf. They's be scrapin' the hero markers on their foot pegs and I could just duck right under them on the inside. They were embarrassed enough when they thought a 600 Bandit just inside lined them then they found out it was a 400.
Fork springs are too soft from the factory. Progressive and gold valve emulators fixed that. Had to use a Kerker K2 for a GSXR400 that I got cheap. It sounded and worked okay :what:
On a long road trip 7000+ rpm at 70mph gets a little tiresome but oh well. I used weighted bar ends and that dampened some of the high freq vibes
Top speed? Meh :what: it's a 400. I got it to indicate 130 at about 13,500 rpm once on the Mountain Creek Lake toll bridge. That's probably only actually 110-115 mph. Enough to go to jail but not enough to double the speed limit.

My next bike here in the fall: 04-05 zx-10, weight = 373 dry (420 somethin wet) hp = 163 stock on one wheel
http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/912/10rsidewbsmall8lz.th.jpg (http://img70.imageshack.us/my.php?image=10rsidewbsmall8lz.jpg)
and honda is OK in the handling dept. kawi has far better suspension and the go into the turn 10 times better, honda's and yamaha's have this knack for falling in the turn and then you have to lift them back up so to speak, where in a zuki or kawi you will be pushed back up in the turn effortlessly (less fatigue) i've ridden and beaten every 600 out there and the kawi 636 (my old bike) was the only one i was impressed w/ BUT the honda was pretty close (lack of torque, hmm go figure) so i'm done w/ the 600's and 1k here i come, and r1's have very shitty trannies (buddy lost one on an exit ramp nearly killed him)

I like the older Magnas.
That 90 degree V4 is so silky smooth. Great balanced engine. Not much for power though. Pain in the ass to adjust the valves. Front cylinder bank is pretty easy but then you gotta' do the back two :smackself:
I raced a V65 Magna at Texas Raceway when I had the GSXR 750 He was pretty freakin quick outta' the hole.
I hate cruisers in general though. I can't stand having my feet in front of me and all my weight centered on my tailbone. On the freeway, I am constantly pulling myself back up on the bars or forcing my feet forward to stay on the pegs. I like my feet underneath me leaning forward into the wind slightly
I'm saving a little each payday for an SV650. I think it's just big enough to where I won't look too stupid and small enough to be fun.
I did see something I thought was funny the other day. I saw an Asian guy all 5'3" of him wearing a Spiderman button down club shirt on an FXSTS Springer. That little guy on that heavy ass Harley probably looked as bad as me on a 400

I never have been much for Yamahas. They just seem pretty fragile to me. We can kick the shit out of our Suzukis and Hondas and be fine next weekend. Seems like the Yamaha guys always have issues. Something's broke, something's messed up....
Kawis had the falling into the turn issue for awhile. They were the last ones to stop using 16" front wheels.
Ever ridden a GPX750 Ninja or a ZX600 A,B, or C? (Ninja 750 and 600R) twitchy bitches! Shame too. They had good motors for their time.
I'm still a Suzuki guy. Their styling? well....that's hit and miss. But everything works well

yea kawi did wait a while, but i can't say i've ridden them two i can only imagine, i've never had anything older than 99, and i hear ya on the yami's (previous owner of 2 r6's lol ) kawi used to be the last one that i'd pick but from 00+ they really stepped their shit up, now sure i can see it now everyone is gonna say that honda was the one that won the title BUT anyone can win when you've got 10k+ in suspension and so on, honestly ALL of em are good bikes but i'm just more partial to kawi and thats all i'll buy, oh yea and the new gsxr 1k = sick  my buddy just got one and he let me rape on it for a lil while and fuck man its sick, hence why i'm stepping up in the cc's

some of the "sportbikes" came equipped w/ them and they are night and day compared to a 17" the turn seems alot different and it takes less effort which in a way is weird, and that sport tourer that you want is a nice bike, rode one and they are pretty comfy

GPX750 Ninja
http://www.fastlanemoto.com/gpx750.jpg
16 front, 18 back. long wheelbase so it was actually pretty stable and the alternator is mounted behind the cylinders making it's L4 as narrow as a Honda V4 but the tiny front tire makes the bike flop into corners.
ZX600C Ninja

I consider sport touring bikes to be like the Concours, ST1100, FJR1300, some of the BMWs...etc....Not naked bikes

I loved the way the bike felt but I'm too tall to see the instruments when I sit upright. Good balance, okay seat (better than that maxi-pad that Honda tried to pass off as a seat on the original CBR600F4i) Just when I look down I see the top of the windshield. No speedo, no tach...nothing

gsxr's are ok i suppose, what yr?? as long as its fuel injection you should be good, the older carbed models were slow as donkey dick  from 01-03 they had some minor probs w/ the shift forks in the tranny so watch out for that, they are quick outta the box and handle fairly well, like stated i'm biased to kawi's now if you can find an 03-04 zx6r 636 that would be the one to get (and you can get em for like mid 4's to mid 5's)

I'm still of the opinion that you should have to start on something like a GS500E.
Everytime I see some squid go and buy an open-class bike and ask, "What's the shift pattern?" :smackself: I know that there's a guy that this time next year will have a story about how motorcycles are "too dangerous" or his friends will be telling a story about how he died because of the motorcycle (they'll omit how he was doing 100 miles an hour in a 30 mph zone down a tree-lined street with no helmet, wearing only flip-flops and shorts) Oh sure, he "knew how to ride" because a YZ80 he rode on a trail 5 years ago is so similar to a GSXR1000 on the street.

your not gonna get anything bigger its the new "fad" which is ugly as fuck, honestly its makes me not want to buy either (not that i would) and yes 36 cc's helps emensly on low end torque (which 600s lack) ask the many that fell to the 636 in my area, as far as what to start out on i can't say much since i learned on a 99 900rr

Yeah, I learned on a '91 Honda VFR - best bike I ever had and boy do I miss it. You just can't throw around a 900 frame like you can a 600 frame. The VFR 750 was perfect, it had the smaller frame with a little more meat under the hood.

Is the kawasawki zx600 ninja a good starter bike?
No,
It's twitchy as hell.
You can go fast on it but you have to be delicate with your inputs. A little countersteer puts it deep into a corner. When you move up to a better bike, you'll end up soft on your entrances and end up on the outside of the corner where all the gravel is.
The reason for the instability is the tiny tires. 110/80/16 front and 130/90/16 rear
you can mount a Metzeler ME33 120/80/16 front and a ME1 140/80/16 rear and that helps a little but no one really makes great 16 inch tires
So you end up learning basically on a 250 with a 600 motor and your countersteer is going to be learned too light which translates to getting into trouble the first time you ride a serious bike
Which is too bad because the motor is real nice. Not as powerful as the current 600's but it's powerband starts at 3000 and is perfectly linear up to 11,000. Good midrange, solid to redline.
Seat is too thin.
I think a Katana would be a better bike. It's only real downsides are:
1) It's a chunky bastard. Full of fluids, a ZX600c is somewhere around 430lbs the can-o-tuna is 30 something lbs heavier dry. That contributes to it's stability though
2)Valve adjustment interval is 3000 miles. You're supposed to do a bucket under shim adjustement every oil change. i don't think many people have.
3) love it or hate it styling. Especially if you get a early 90's model when Suzuki was plastering everything with what I can best describe as "nuclear tiger vomit"

Is the kawasawki zx600 ninja a good starter bike?
i agree on the no part to a point, any 03 + zx6r hell no cause they are torquey as hell, now a 98-02 zx6r i think is a good starter bike, they have awesome brakes & a good clutch to learn on, and they wont throw ya on your ass if you get a lil throttle jerky, now don't get me wrong they will do all your lil wheelies and they are a hell of a drag bike (front end heavy) but i wouldn't limit it out as a first bike, and you can pick them up pretty cheap

Updated pics of my bike. Gave it a wash and wax (it promptly rained) and took off the cargo rack. Next step is returning the bar to the stock one (much lower) and replacing the signals with a set that don't stick out as much. Oh yeah, I need to adjust the rear Koni's now that I'm riding more aggresively.
PS> Got my license 2 weeks ago with a 91% and set a new record for the emergency stop in bikes over 500cc. you should have seen the test guys face. PRICELESS.

that's not smoke, it's steam. The exhaust opens upwards and collects rain a little bit. Plan in the works is cutting off that cone and welding on an extension and a universal sleeve exhaust. It's not an immediate need.

Is the kawasawki zx600 ninja a good starter bike?
If you're looking to go starter bikes, I highly recommend the Kawasaki Ninja 650R. It's more than enough power for a starter. We had a few at the dealership I used to work at. They were sweet bikes and I would've picked one up, but at the time it was winter...and winter in MI + street bike = death.

yea you can find one pretty easily (well depends on the area) look in the area of honda f3 600's or possibly 98-00 gsxr's, just shop wisely and take someone who knows something about them so you don't get screwed, in fact that reminds me i have to go help a buddy out w/ one tonight :x

For $3000. you should be able to get a decent GS500E, helmet, gloves, and jacket, maybe an F1s muffler so it doesn't sound like a sewing machine but you don't have to rejet. :what:
When you drop your GS500E (and you will) you'll be like, "aww man. that sucks."
When you drop an R6, "OHHHH GAWD NOOOO!!!!!!!WHY??????!!!!!!!!!!"   "It was so perfect and beautiful, WHY!!!!!!"

Suzuki.
It's a cheap, basic, and durable as hell motorcycle that just happens to handle pretty good once you get some firmer fork springs
http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/pics/Standard-Naked-Traditional-MuscleBike-Commuter/Suzuki-GS500E-1994.jpg
It's a good way to learn some basics on maintenance too. It's got screw type valve adjusters so it's more like a Civic than GSXR on valve adjustments. Still, you will learn chain adjustments and how to mount and unmount wheels, etc... and screwing up costs a lot less. Like if you forget to loosen the lock nut while adjusting the chain and break the adjuster. GS is hella cheap compared to say for instance CBR

How is the ride? Is it soft, hard? Does it forgive mistakes better then others?

Es no ah Slejh hammer...ees a Yee Esss.
seat is nice. rear suspension is suprisingly good for only having spring preload adjustment. Fork springs are WAY too soft. Too soft for me anyway. Progressive springs for my GS400F were about $75. and were a huge improvement. I think the forks are the same.:what: Brakes are good. It's real stable. Gets really great gas mileage. It's lightweight and narrow. Power? Compared to a 600, there is none. I mean more than a 250 Ninja and you can actually put your girlfriend on the back and get on the highway, but still very little. Equal riders in an EX500 vs GS500 race the GS gets owned. But it's got enough to push 13 sec 1/4 mile (high 12 if you are talented) The engine is virtually bulletproof. You'll get tired of the lack of power after awhile but by then you should be ready for the R6 or whatever.

that wrap helps alot to keep your leg heat down (well at least on a full fairing bike it does)

my bike is air cooled so it helps A LOT. Revs a little faster now too which is strange, guess they weren't lying when they said the exhaust flow would speed up. Changing the oil today and bringing it to the local shop to see how much he'll give me for it :D.
I'm paying off the loan and buying a road bicycle instead. Honda 919 coming next summer.

gsxr's are decent bikes, handle comparable to a kawi (my fav) and to the guy that said bikes suck LOL, guess he's never ridden one  its really all opinion and i'll be honest i have more fun on a bike in 20 mins than i've had in my car in the past year. once you KNOW how to ride one and push it i don't think you'd be saying that bikes suck.

I'm getting an all black 03-04 CBR600RR.
I love the front ends. I love the center exhaust.
I will lower it like an inch or so. Nothing but black. Maybe rims with a red lip.
I'm gonna try to get imported Mugen windscreen.
Maybe when I become a baller, the Mugen exhaust. (like $1700)
I'll wear a black Alpine Stars jacket, gloves with carbon fiber knuckles, black helmet with custom air brushed skull graphics.
That's my plan for next year basically.

personally bro go for the 05+ they changed the suspension & improved the h/p for the good, your front fork is now inverted as well as a better rear shock, seats are hard as hell though & they tend to fall into corners
