maxima vs. old teggy with me following them

so i was on my way home from chillin with my girlfriend and other ppl and i came up behind the previous model maxima and some old skool 2dr teggy. i was assuming they were friends cuz the maxima followed the teggy at a light. but anyways...

so the maxima was on the left with me behind it and the teggy was on the right. they give it a go for about 300 feet before they reach a red light and the teggy walked the maxima a tad. at first i thought, "wtf?" cuz it was some old rusted beat up teg with a GS symbol on the back and the needle sized exhaust pipes.

so after we reach the 2nd light, i thought id see if i can keep up with atleast the maxima. cuz i thought they were fast and wanted to see how well i could hold up. i launched soft and to my surprise, i kept up with the maxima. he walked me a bit in the low end but once vtec hit, i stayed dead with him til bout 70ish. the teggy was about 2 car lengths ahead the maxima or so.

i know nothing about maximas but i thought they were supposed to be fast? or atleast quicker than civics? i didnt see any symbols on the back of it so i didnt know what it was. i was very surprised i kept up with him. all i got is my bone stock d16y8 that just hit 170,000 miles tonight with an eBay short ram.

I ran my friends 97 max and he was with me through 1st and 2nd and started dropping back like a car or two behind; and that was with my H22...

i dont think so. im pretty sure the maxima was stick and i heard a loud grinding and i think the maxima missed a gear. maybe thats why i kept up so well? :what:

he had to miss a gear. i have heard alot about late 90s 5sp maximas (95+) hitting 15s flat in the 1/4

i dunno....the 95-99 on's. not the ones with the long flat taillights and not the ones with the circular tail lights. the more rectangular shaped tail lights.

either way the only diff (powertrain wise) was the transmissions, either MT or AT. All cars were equipped with the VQ30DE engine making 190 hp and 205 tq. In 5sp MT models, with even a mediocre driver, it will rape any stock USDM civic (minus the FG2 Si). Even in the case of the Si, all it'd need is the Stillen supercharger and i'll be seing 13s (all in a comfortable family sedan you can get for, including the s/c under 10k).
