I am hoping that you guys can help me out..I just did a B16 swap into my 92 civic dx and it seems to lose throttle response once its warmed up or after I drive it hard for a moment.I cleaned out my FITV and I checked the IACV and it was clean also.I also adjusted my TPS and it helped but it still does it..I had a similar problem with the original D15 and I am assuming that a DOHC motor shouldn't run like this..I have no check engine lights and I have the coling fan running off the ignition.I have searched through tons of threads and tried just about everything and I hope maybe someone can help..Also is it normal for hondas , for the steering wheel to vibrate??Not when Im driving but when Im idling. The steering wheel just vibrates and once I give some gas its fine.. Im new to hondas and my last car didint vibrate at all..Thanks in advance for your help..

steering wheel vibration is normal for a swapped car...
as for the throttle response, did you check how tight/ loose the throttle cable is?

I did and it seems fine..I only get this kind of throttle response when the car is warmed up..When I give it gas it seems to just suck in air and all I hear is my exhaust but my car doesn't want to really go anywhere unless I floor it..

Could be that your tps is off somehow. Could be a lazy O2 sensor(going bad). could be a bad map sensor( unlikely)

I adjusted the TPS to were it should be..And I have few map sensors that I swapped out and it still did the same thing.. How can I check the 02 sensor??Also would I get bad acceleration if the tranny is getting too hot??When I swapped in the B16 I kept the same D15 radiator..I forgot to mention that this was an auotmatic swap..

could be timing, my buddys prelude was off 1 or 2 teeth, and it ran good, but lagged in the upper RPM range... did you swap from auto to manual or auto to auto?
i dont know if auto civics have a tranny cooler, but that might be an issue...

I had the timing belt , waterpump, ect. changed prior to installing the motor. This was an auto to auto swap..

double check the timing bro.;)
maby its a bad tranny... ill talk to my friend about how to adjust the tranny shift point cuz that could be it, or the trannys filter (screen) might be clogged.

I dont think its the timing because its fine when its cold..As for the tranny it shifts fine but I am going to do a drain and fill just in case..

might be ur timing...my timing belt was off and it idles awsome cold or hot and ran fine but felt very gutless and sluggish untill vtec it would be better but still would die out.

Im glad you brought this up, because my mechanic told me that my timing belt is off by a tooth or two.If this is true would this cause the slow throttle response??

I like it ,but I cant really tell you until I get this resolved..The installation was pretty straight forward with minor fabrication on the tranny side..

i had that same problem but i have a d15. lube up the throttle cable a bit and see if that helps. i used graphite. and it has seemed to work pretty well.

Two teeth is a whole lot as far as timing is concerned. Not good for the motor either.

What could happen to the motor??And could this be reason for the response??

very much so, when i got my timing fixed it was like i had a whole dif engine. but i noticed that my timing was off because it had low compression and it started pre-igniting/detonating and was slow. pre-ignition/detonations not good on pistons and rings. Belive it or not i drove around like this for about a year...

Thats what the problem is..I would like to think that a B16 is a faster and more responsive engine than a D15 with bad pistons..I have been driving like this for a little over a month and Im taking it to the shop on tuesday..Ill post up what the outcome is..Thanks alot for all the responses..=)

So I went to the mechanic yesterday and had my timing checked..The belt is on correctly but the timing was off a little. It is running better but Im still having the low response..The only other thing I can think of is maybe my spark plugs are not the right ones or they are bad..What do you think??BTW-I have NGK iridiums in my car currently, should I change to NGK platinums??

maybe you're expecting too much from a b16. i mean a lot of people do say that the b16 feels like a d-series under 4000 rpm or so. you gotta rev it high if you wanna get some speed out of it. it sounds like you have an auto so all you can really do is floor it and it'll get there soon. my brother has an auto accord and it pulls prety good mainly because accords have more torque than civics. he probably has close to 130-140 torque wheres a b16 has around 110? so yea, i dont kno too much but i think that might be it. just my two cents.

I understand what your saying but this motor has more power than the D15 that I removed. The problem is that it will run perfect with power and than once its warmed up or "hot" its loses it power and response that it had before..Thats what Im trying to figure out and Im at a dead end street because I have checked just about everything..I pulled the plugs and they were pre-gapped at .40 and I have read that it is supposed to be gapped at .52.I re-gapped them and it feels a little better..Could problem be related to an ignition coil or ICM??If anyone has any ideas please let me know..

I have gone through everything and my car is running better, but there is just one thing..After I drive my car for a awhile I will put it in Park and the idle bounces constantly from 1000-1200.I took off my IACV and cleaned it but it still does this.My car is not throwing any codes so I dont know what I should do?I also checked and cleaned my FITV and adjusted my TPS.Any ideas??

NGK's are definitely good. Sounds like you might want to check the O2 sensor just incase, couldnt hurt.

Any ideas?? I dont want to spend over $100.00 on new IACV if that wont fix the problem..Also I have my cooling fan on constantly, is it bad if its always on??
