So the other day at Taco Bell, this elderly man was waiting in line, so being the kind person I am, I said "How are you today?" and he said "I'm blessed" I say "well that's good to hear". Then he pointed at the sky and said "that's where I'll be going" and I once again kindly said "That's very good to hear sir, I'm sure you deserve it" then he goes on to ask me "do you know jesus?" and following my beliefs, I said "well ... I can't really say" and he didn't reply.

I kinda felt bad .... maybe I should've just lied to him ... maybe sometimes it's better to lie? But I really do stand by my beliefs to the fullest.

What would you've done?

I'd be tempted to just bust out with, "Hare Krisna Hare Krisna Hare Hare Hare Rama...." grab the napkin holder and start playing it like a bongo and dancing.

That usually shuts them the hell up.

But then I don't get my Meximelt and they ask me to leave. :(

lie about your beliefs? why?

if you BELIEVE something, no need to hide it

That's what I did ..... but these older Christian people around here, can't really comprehend things very well, they're so caught up you know? That's why it'd almost be better to lie.

You see I'm Agnostic, which is all over the place to many people.

P.S. Don't get mad at me for my avatar lol

im completely unbiased on the subject. i was raised Catholic, but now dont really believe much of it all. im engaged to a Mormon girl who's family is EXTREMELY religious, so you can guess how that works, lol

im not at a point in my life where i feel that believing is all that important to me. i live my life day to day on morals that i believe to be good, not what some book says...

turbo FTW!!

Yeah, I had no idea the man would start to converse about religion, I don't like to really talk about the subject myself for the most part. I hate heated conversations anyways ....

Hey, I'm a Latter Day Saint.

...a very lapsed Latter Day Saint.

but in defense of Mormons, they are the most Christ-like example of any church congregation I have ever been to. I just never could buy into that "Jesus in America" and Joseph Smith translating the gold tablets business. I just don't have that kind of faith.

But I was thinking about what I'd say if some old man said, "I'm going there..." and pointed up.

"Oh yeah?....me and my bros used to get high on the roof too when we worked here..."

:rolf:

I wouldn't have said anything to begin with though. The elderly... well, a lot of them are kind of um... how can I say this... crazy. They're set in their ways and often can be very vocal on it, that is, if you first prompt them. So don't talk to them and they won't go off about God or pies or whatever.

You know...with the Charles T. Russell's "1914 end of the world" thing.

Maybe he was just prophecying WWI?

judging by the way i normally act i have to assume that i would engage in a lengthy discussion/debate in reference to the existence of god..

well... i wouldn't have said anything in the first place. i generally don't engage strangers in conversation.

but... i probably just would have told him, 'that's nice' when he said he was going to heaven or whatever. i would definitely have said 'no' to knowing jesus. i wouldn't lie to placate a stranger, and i'm not ashamed of my spirituality. so, i would have simply told the truth. :)

haha, alot of things have changed since russell's day....i wasnt talking about the "faith" part --- i was more focusing on the fact that you think mormans are more christ-like as a religion. . . . .

 No, I haven't been to a Kingdom Hall since I was like 8. At that age I was probably more interested in playing with the paper figures on the felt board for telling bible stories to children than whether or not the parishioners were leading a Christ-like example.

I was more referring to Churches like First Baptist Euless where I was stopped on my way into the parking lot because, "This is God's house...we don't park cars like that in front of God's house do we?" ( I was driving my Triumph Spitfire which was about 90% restored Externally Very good, some wood damage on the dash and improper tweed seat covers)

Or my stepsister's mega-church with the ATMs in the foyer next to the coffee shop. (I wonder what would have happened to me if I had shouted, "What Would Jesus Do?" and dumped over all the ATMs like Jesus with the money lenders tables at the Temple. :rolf: )

Or all the "Success and Life" Evangelical churches that seem to think that Christ is some sort of investment banker.

Or my grandmother's church where she and my grandfather faithfully tithed every penny they could spare for well over 50 years and the pastor wouldn't come see either on their death beds without "travel compenstation."

hahahaha @ the atm machines, that would of been hilarious....i can see where churches/religion would easily leave a bad taste in your mouth....if you ever get bored, you should go check out a kingdom hall now that your older, and would be able to pay attention ;) i think you'd be suprised....or maybe not  i dunno, i just know what i read about jesus in the bible, and it seems like the only thing the moormans got going for them, is that SOMETIMES (and i use that term loosely, i see them MAYBE once a year down here) you can find them going from door to door like jesus did....

then again, i dont know much about moormans, and im not one to judge....im sure everyone here has a bad JW experience

Once a year?

Witnessing and Conferring the Gift of The Holy Ghost are major parts of every young Latter Day Saint. (males anyway...:what:)
From the time a 12 year old is ordained a deacon in the Aaronic priesthood all the way through to the calling and ordination as an Elder in the Melchizedek Priesthood. Everyone's seen an Elder at least once...they're the guys on 10 speeds and mountain bikes.

LOL at myself....you'd actually think I believe this stuff. That's why I had to leave the church shortly after being ordained a Priest. I couldn't prepare and bless the Sacrament and not believe.
