I'm glad Hughes lost. I never liked him. GSP was overwhelming.

I don't think I've watched a single fight that Hughes has won.
I've only seen him lose.
God, GSP whipped his ass.

Matt Serra vs GSP is going to be funny

I like Matt Serra alot, but he is gonna get his shit rocked in the first minute...but I'm stoked for the Hughes St. Pierre rematch.

Btw GSP talks like HAL from 2001: A Space Odessy but it's ok because he's a fucking animal.

Definitely not on purpose, but I think it altered the fight. Cuz I know I'd be constantly be thinking about guarding the bits more so then the dome.

I tend to agree. I mean those aren't exactly soft kicks he was throwing, and when you get hit that hard down there you feel it in your stomach and it just throws off your focus totally...cant wait for a rematch though

To tell you the truth he played those both up. Where GSP originaly hit was under the cup right on his inner thigh. They where saying GSPs foot slid up and clipped Hughes cup but on the replay GSPs foot stay right inbetween his leg next to the thigh. I don't think he got hit in the groin. GSP would have known if he kicked Matts cup. He seemed rather upset when Matt claimed that second low blow. In his match with Bj Hughes claimed an eye gouges when he was obviously rocked. I think he faked it because he was really feeling the leg kicks. Which would also explain why he wasn't shooting vs GSP. I don't think GSP vs Serra will be as bad of a destruction as you guys think. I think when the fight start Sera will shoot and keep shooting till something happens. GSP should win that fight easily though.

Honestly I am kind of rooting for Sera because he seems like a nice, down to earth guy, but in reality he has no chance.

Sera has a chance. If GSp doesn't train his wrestling and Sera gets on top it could mean the end for GSP. Sera is really good on the mat. Watch some of his ADCC (grappling - check youtube) matching. He has tapped out so many people including the #1 Lw in the world Takanori Gomi. I think if GSP trains hard he will win though.

If being the operative word, GSP has pretty amazing takedown defense. Sera had a lot of trouble taking down Chris Lidel (sp?) and GSP's takedown defense is surley stronger than Chris's.

That is definetly one of the things about MMA though. You never know. Hughes really didn't challenge GSPs takedown defense. Bj was able to take down GSP and Bj is not known for his TDs. We will just have to wait and see. I would like to see Sera have a good showing seeing that he is a fellow gracie trained guy.

p.s. Lytel

yeah i see trilogy ending the same way the liddell couture trilogy did, taking the belt, then winning the 3rd fight plain and simple, hughes is just to one dimensional and GSP exposed him, and hughes went for a take down and he had double under hooks but GSP wasn't having any of that, GSP is the future of the UFC and he will reign for many fights to come, besides matt hughes and diego, the 170lb division is slim

got traction
11-21-2006, 03:30 AM
that fight was fucked up. i think the only reason why st. pierre won that fight was because he broke Matts mindset by kickin him in the nuts 2 times. but reguargless that was a sad fight. didnt even go 2 rounds

You had me agreeing with you until you said this. 170 is probably the deepest division in the UFC.

Only two people in the mmaweekly top ten at 170 are not in the ufc.

i think the 155lb division is the deepest spencer fisher, melvin guillard, sean sherk, bj penn(now), jens pulver, joe lauzon, tyson griffin, joe stevenson, 170 lb division is decent but there arent very many fighters that can be champions i seriously think only hughes, GSP, diego, parysian, and perhaps john fitch are the only top scale ufc fighters at 170 the rest are more of like gate keepers

and by the way koscheck does not belong on that list he sucks a fat one, nick diaz shouldn't be in the top 10 either, hes good, but loses when he fights upper level competition hint: riggs, sanchez, parysian

Bj penn is staying in the 170 division. Goldberg talks out of his ass a lot of the time. Most of the guys on your list at 155 at B or C rate fighters.

BJ is going down to 155, he even weighed in at 166 for the matt hughes fight, and thats because he had to gain weight, he was already cutting weight when he got the call that GSP was injured and he had to step in, and please name 1 c level fighter i listed

I know he weighed 166 for all of his fights at 170. He is hungry for that belt and wants it back. If you did a little research in sted of just listening to what a commentator said you would have found www.bjpenn.com. That is BJ Penns official website. He personally posts updates on what he is doingon this website. If you look at the website it says that "Tuesday, 14th November 2006 at 8:52PM

First off all of the guys on you list are in the UFc. You know there are a lot of other organizations that have better fighters at 155 then the ufc. I will cut and paste all of the guys that you listed that are b or c rate fighters at 155. They are: spencer fisher, melvin guillard, sean sherk, jens pulver, joe lauzon, tyson griffin, joe stevenson. The only person that would be worth anything at 155 on this list is Sean Sherk and Bj Penn. Bj is staying at the 170 division for now. But with him you never know he could fight both.

LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISION (160 pounds and lower)

#1 Lightweight Fighter in the World: Takanori Gomi

2. Hayato Sakurai

3. Tatsuya Kawajiri

4. Joachim Hansen

5. Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto

6. Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro

7. Mitsuhiro Ishida

8. Marcus Aurelio

9. Sean Sherk

10. Gilbert Melendez

The ufc doesn't have the best Lw in the world. Most of the japanese divisions have better lw fighters then the ufc. Pride, deep, shooto, heros, etc.

i'm not talking about any other organizations but UFC because thats what we were talking about in the first place, Of course there are better fighters else where, and you just said sherk is a b or c level fighter but yet hes ranked #9 in the world? and i can't believe he would be #9 in the lightweight division hes had 1 fucken lightweight fight his whole career, and i can't believe you think all those guys are b and C level fighters!

oh and you can add hermes franca and rodger huerta to the stacked lightweight division too

JiuJitsu_greg

Was looking though old stuff so I figured I would continue out convo on ufc since I missed that you had replied. As far as UFc goes any of the guys could be in the top ten. The Lightweight division is just coming about again. The Ufc lightweight fighters need time to prove themselve. I would say Sherk is still a B level fighter. He a lay and pray typ of guy that rarely finishes a fight. Just like Tim sylvia, he is ranked somewhere reound 7th in the world and I personally think he is a C level fighter. His skills aren't really solid at all. The ufc heavyweight division is really weak and Sylvia is just huge.. He actually cut to make the weight limit. That's just crazy.
