How to: Cam Install


Car: 96-00 Honda Civic SOHC

Tools: 12mm Socket
10mm Socket
Timing Gun
Feeler Guages

1. remove neg batt cable
2. remove valve cover (5 10mm bolts)

3. remove timing belt cover (2 10mm bolts)
4. remove spark plugs (makes it easier to turn crank)
5. set #1 cylinder at TDC (Top Dead Center)

6. remove top 12mm distributor bolt
7. loosen timing belt tensioner and slide timing belt of cam gear
8. loosen rocker bolts in sequence (start in center and work out in a cris cross pattern), do not remove bolts from rocker assembly they help to hold the assembly together (10 12mm bolts and 4 10mm bolts)

9. lift of rocker assembly as one unit

10. remove cam shaft and cam gear


11. if want now clean rocker assembly with break clean

12. remove cam gear off old shaft and install it on new camshaft *don’t forget the key
13. replace the cam seal
14. lube the new camshaft with assembly lube

15. put camshaft in head with timing marks at TDC

16. replace rocker assembly in reverse order and tighten bolts in sequence

17. replace timing belt and tighten back up
18. set valve lash
19. reconnect neg batt cable
20. start car and adjust timing if necessary

yes i did feel alittle more power on the top end, and also a friend that drove my car said he felt a little more on the top end from about 4000rpm's on up. but i only had it in for about 2 weeks before i boosted the hatch.

it a delta cam its a regrind and you can get it from delta cam in washington state, sorry i dont have there number right now.

yes they are stockers but new stockers, the cam profile isnt crazy enough that i needed to change them out.

i was just wondering, how much more hp did it add? like 10? 15hp? and did it add more torque too?

to be honest, i never dynoed the car untill i installed the turbo, then blew up the motor so now im back to stock

quick question, did you set the valve lash to OEM spec or was there numbers from Delta to set the lash at?
