Ever since I bought the car I thought the sounds came from the exhaust leak. I just fixed that leak today. I was feeling confident that I fixed it since I started the car and heard nothing but normal engine sounds. I started driving and realized that there was still the hesitation, sputtering, exhaust rattle, and that annoying noise was still there while I drove in 1st gear and some what in 2nd. After in 3rd and 4th it wasn't even noticeable. The exhaust rattle was only there sometimes. Mainly at idle.
I'm almost positive that this car needs a tune up. Under the hood when it's idling it sounds like a lifter tick. When revving the exhaust rattles. And when in the cabin, it sounds like a mixture of all that and a grinding noise only in 1st and 2nd.
