I recently purchased an 04 Civic for my daughter, after getting it home and giving it a thorough going over I noticed that where the Steering Rack exits the Engine Compartment on both sides there is a large opening that should have a shield or cover but after calling a Honda dealer they say no cover, I find it hard to think that Honda would leave this for Water and Ice/Snow to enter the Engine Compartment, can anyone tell me if this is so and there is no Shield or Cover, the Honda parts person seemed somewhat lost.

Can you snag a picture? I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to. Maybe @joe7987 can help you out, he has a 7th gen and would know more about it.

nope it comes like that with the large opening for the steering rack. as long as you have the front lower splash guard you will be just fine.
