Maybe I missed it somewhere, but what prompted you to send it in for an overhaul? OE rebuild?

yes OE rebuild, the first year I got the car running it was burning some oil on high rpms and at autocross I'm always on the limiter so it's almost like a 2stroke engine when I'm on the course lol. but yeah I just got it rebuild to OE specs besides the supertech retainers for assurance since I'm always on the limiter, but other than that it's all OEM honda.

the waiting game. at that time the head and block was already sent to the machine shop for machining, at the same time I was waiting for the engine parts to come in. I was hoping to get it finish before the autocross season starts but I ran into some delays.

on a side note, my good friend kevin gave me his set of used Spoon lug nuts. he's not using it anymore and he knew I like Spoon parts so instead of it just sitting on his garage he just gave them to me to be put to use.

_DSC8308

then a few days after another Spoon part came in the mail. I sold my old EF,DA application Spoon/vision rear strut bar, so I looked for a replacement bar.

some pictures, no video though

the next two weeks there's another race, I still drove my friends car and at the end of the event during fun runs I tried driving my other friends S2000. It was my first time driving an S2000 and also my first time driving a rear wheel drive car, and it was on a race event. fortunately I managed to keep the car in one piece after, though I almost lost it and went to the grass lol

that weekend there's another autocross event, obviously my car is still in pieces so still I don't have a car to drive. My friend with the S2000 kind of felt bad about it so he offered me to co-drive with him, but then when we got to the venue something fail happened.

I accidentally locked the keys inside of the car lol we tried opening the locks but unfortunately we don't have the tool to do it, good thing Riley on here offered his CAA membership and got the tow truck guy to unlock the car. At the time the tow truck came the race has already started, I'm in group A so we'll be running first luckily Nick with the '92 Civic hatchback kindly offered me to co-drive with him instead and so I raced his car that day

a little off the topic; I got tired of daily driving the ranger because it was standard and I want a more relaxing daily driver so I looked for an auto civic sedan but haven't got my luck. all the sedan that I checked out is either rusted or has been in an accident, so I ended up with this '98 Civic Si coupe. All original paint, original quarters and all stock though it has already 300+++ km's it still runs and drives good.

when I first got it

2 days after I was looking for Integra seats for the coupe, but instead I came across a different ad. some guy was selling a set of 16" Volk Racing rims for a good price so I went and checked it out.

that same night when I got home the coupe had already different set of wheels

JULY 2013

got an update from my mechanic that the engine is almost complete, it was also a long weekend(canada day) so I took advantage of the time to put some work on the car

I mounted and wired my ricer gauges, I was gonna place it on the airbag tray but figured it wouldn't fit. so I just mounted them in the middle of the dash.

_DSC8400
by bonspeed07, on Flickr

this is where i'm placing the controller, I was going to use the JDM push type cup holder but the controller won't fit properly, it's sticking about half an inch plus I didn't want to cut the rear portion of the console of that cup holder so I just used the USDM 99-00 style cup holder. I just installed the push type cup holder on the daily coupe.

after 30mins. of aligning the engine we're finally done, it was hard getting the bolt's to line up because of the aluminum mounts

_DSC8485
by bonspeed07, on Flickr

the next day after work I tried firing it up we weren't able to fire it up that night cause it was already late, didn't want to wake up my neighbours.

It started fine and ran good but there was just one problem. there's an oil leaking from the timing belt side of the engine and at the back of the cylinder head as well.

bonspeed

New Member
5+ Year Member

because of that I couldn't start driving the car to break it in, I contacted my mechanic and told him about the oil leak he then came to my house and checked on it and found out that he forgot to tighten the cam plug on the timing belt side and the bypass plug at the back of the cylinder head, that's where the oil leak is coming from.

after fixing that issue I checked everything and made sure it's ready for the road again and started driving it.

a short video when I got it running and gauges all working.

that same week I got the TE's back from powder coating, I wasn't much happy with how the color turned out I was expecting it to be a little bit more bronze but is more of gold-ish

Looks great, love that it's pre-facelift still
thanks man! I've had my chance to do the facelift but I opted for the older look, it just seems that a lot of people always do the conversion so I thought I would just retain the original front end.

by bonspeed07, on Flickr

then after two runs, this happened lol

IMG_20130914_162914
by bonspeed07, on Flickr

there was an oil leaking through the header causing a big smoke, I thought it was coming from the oil pressure sensor so I re-tightened that but still didn't solve the issue. I couldn't get under the car cause I don't have a floor jack with me so I just called it a day before anything happens to the engine.

so I finished the rest of my runs in this S2000

20130908_170144
by bonspeed07, on Flickr

luckily I got a video of one of my runs in my car, no video in the Spoon coupé though

I was still able to drive the car back home and as soon as I got home I jacked it up and looked where the oil leak is coming from. I need to get it fixed for the race next day.

the culprit

DSC02935
by bonspeed07, on Flickr

the bolt holding the breather box is loose that's why at high rpm's the breather box is getting pushed out causing an oil leak

while the car is up on jack stands I removed the wheels to check for any rubbing issues, good thing I did cause I found this
