Stock D16Y8 owners - normal acceleration question

Is it normal for these engines with manual transmission (bone stock intake exhaust etc) to start to feel restrictive while accelerating at around 4000 rpms? Or should it be the opposite, slow low end and better high end rpms?

Does the clutch pedal need adjusting as clutch wears?

I’ve been having issue shifting into 1st gear lately and was wondering if it could have anything to do with clutch pedal adjustment? Car has 192k miles and when I first bought it at 90k the clutch would grab mid pedal travel. Now it seems to grab a lot lower. Pedal free play needs adjusting or...

Topping off transmission fluid after cv axle replacement question

Just changed the passenger side cv axle on a d16y8 manual transmission and a good amount of fluid came out. My question, when topping off will more fluid come out of the fill hole when I undo it? If so is there a way to prevent it? Also curious why some cars don’t leak any fluid out when the...

    Sway bar end bushings

Just noticed my 98 civic ex sway bar end bushings are crumbling away. I'm looking for suggestions on replacements similar to OEM but cheaper. Not into performance ones or anything. When I look online I only see Energy Suspension ones. Is that brand any good? Any input would be appreciated

Fuel trim question - 98 Civic

Have a 98 civic EX all stock. Today out of curiosity I wanted to check the fuel trim levels. Currently car runs with no issues but a slight exhaust leak before the catalytic converter. With engine warm in closed loop at idle I observed fuel trim and short term was fluctuating between +3-7%...

Where to place jack for highest lift

I used to know someone with a garage and would use the lift for oil changes. That arrangement has since come to an end so now I'm trying to get the front of the car high enough to change the oil using a regular 2 1/4 ton craftsman jack at the front jack point. But I can't get it high enough to...

    Fuel line repair kit (eBay)

So my fuel line has started leaking and needs to be replaced. Saw a YouTube video of someone who used this eBay kit to replace his. I'm curious how well it works long term or any feedback from anyone who may have used it or something similar. Apparently it's cut to length and has the same...

How tell if fuel hose was used?

Was driving today an hour from home and started smelling gas. So stopped at a local shop as I was worried. Sure enough could see a puddle forming as one of the lines under the car had rotted. They said the entire line would need replacing eventually because it all looked to have some...

Missing dust cover for drum brakes

Anyone know where I can get the small rubber dust cover that you remove to adjust drum brakes? Local parts store don't have them. Tried eBay but can't find any for a 98 civic. Anyone know which other ones might work?

    Distributor squeaking

Was driving home tonight and soon as I pull in to park started hearing a squeaking sound that I immediately attributed to a belt. Pop the hood and the noise was evidently coming from the distributor I know the bearings can go bad, but I'm wondering how long do I have before needing to...

Oil change - Hot or cold engine

My car has been parked for a few days and I need to change the oil. I'm wondering if I can drain the oil without first driving the car to warm it up. It has been parked for a while so I'd imagine most of the oil has settled in the pan?

    Grr rear drums clicking noise

Hi guys I had my rear drum brakes replaced a few months ago. All new hardware, shoes, drums. Now I'm hearing clicking noise at very low speeds. Cleaned both drums and readjusted but the clicking persists. Have done this twice already. First time clicking stopped but only for a few miles...

    Stumbling when started after garaged

I started parking my car in the garage and not driving anywhere from 1-3 days. I've noticed when starting it stumbles and feels like a very slight misfire for about 5-10 seconds then clears up and drives fine. Never noticed it when parking outside even for same duration of not being driven...

    Conflicting oil change information everywhere

Hi guys so I have a 98 civic ex d16y8 all stock except for suspension. I've started changing my own oil and there are a ton of conflicting info on type/intervals. The service manual that came with the car says under "normal" conditions to change it every 7500 miles and the same manual...

Slide pin issue (update with video)

Was servicing my brakes. The driver's side top slide pin was seized. Removed it and replaced the rubber bushing at the end but it wouldn't go into the bracket. Even when trying to reuse the old bushing. It didn't look swollen either. It only fits without the rubber bushing at the end. Do I...

Vibration but not in steering wheel

Recently noticed at highway speeds mostly in the 55-65 mph range I can feel a slight vibration but the steering wheel doesn't shake like when tires need balancing. I do however notice the shift knob shakes and if I increase speed both vibration and shift knob shake decrease. Also noticed the...
