'91 Civic SI: stops at 3200rpms

My 1991 Civic SI has all of a sudden developed three issues that I think are related. First I started hearing what I thought was an idler pulley going bad in the engine compartment. After a few days of that all of a sudden the idle got rough, the check engine light came on and above about 3200 rpm the engine acted like it was hitting the rev limiter. Any ideas as to what's going on here?

The problem turned out to be the bearing in my distributor. Apparently this is a common problem with this diestributor.

It's been running great ever since I replaced the distributor.
