1991 civic vehicle speed sensor code 17 problem

I recently bought a 1991 civic hatch off my bro who got it off some random guy.he did a rover motor swap and has an Si tranny in it.motor is a D16A8...after driving the car for a few mins the check engine light comes on and throws a VSS code.as far as im aware there is no sensor on the tranny like the 92's and up?the gauges and everything else work fine and we've swapped clusters and still throws the check engine.anyone have any input on the situation PLEASE help

Which ecu are you using?

which ever one came with the car..im not to familiar with the mechanics of the car..

you think if the ecu is for a newer civic it could be looking for the vss when it doesnt have one?
