2005 honda civic ex catalytic converter

My check engine light went on..code 67. They said that it's the catalytic converter and I was being quoted $1600 for parts and labor! They said also it's because there's no aftermarket cat conv available for 2005 honda civic ex special edition 1.7L AT. Is that true? Any suggestions on where I can get some cat conv that's not going to cost me an arm and a leg? I'm in the state of Cali and don't need to do my emissions until late next year. Thanks!

You can get catalytic converters aftermarket, just make sure its direct fit. $1600 is too much IMO. I know someone who is getting their cat and both o2 sensors replaced on a 05ish CRV for just under $1k.
