96 civic CX tranny

96 civic CX d16y7 automatic. I've had the engine rebuilt and we put it back in the car the other day, before rebuild it was fine, now I can't get the car to get out of Park without insorting the key into the key lock. My brake lights DO work. What is this? Also the transmission level is filled to the top but it shifts real hard.

Your tranny fluid should only be filled up to the fill hole. If thats not the case, then remove the filler bolt and let it drain out until it stops. Im not a tranny expert, but I believe excessive fluid will cause poor shifting.

Theres some sort of shift safety switch. Perhaps the excess fluid is setting it off somehow or maybe you forgot to reconnect something.
