Advice for changing starter on a 2002 Si hatch

Hello all- I figured changing the starter on a civic would be easy...

I was completely dead wrong, so I humbly ask for your advice-

Here's my facts:
  • 2002 Civic Si hatchback
  • Manual Transmission
  • Intermittent no-start has me thinking it's a failing solenoid
  • Reman starter in hand
I found the starter, but the damned thing is buried under the intake manifold!!!

What is my plan of attack here? Any how-to or procedure would be greatly appreciated. -John

Remove the intake, throttle body, and intake manifold, disconnect the starter and remove it.

Also unbolt the radiator support at the top (just two bolts) it gives you some room to slide the intake manifold out easier

I was hoping differently, but I can't argue with the logic. Are there gaskets I have to replace when I put the manifold back on?

Time to set aside an afternoon... Thanks again!!

No, you'll be fine with reinstalling the intake manifold gasket and throttle body gasket unless you rip the throttle body one. You can try to work around the throttle body (it's not impossible but it's harder)

Thanks again guys- Looks like the culprit was actually a loose damned battery cable!

When I pulled the battery to get a look at the starter, I found it *really* loose. When I tightened it upon re-installation, the issue has disappeared.
