So I always thought my car was a 97 civic ex. I am will be changing the intake and exaust manifold and saw a pj2-2 with 96 stamped on the right. I googled it and there's nothing corresponding to the 96; only 95, 97 or so. I know its y8 but is the year 97 or 96? Or does it even matter? I am a noob at this so thanks in advance for any helpful response.

I just realized you're in Canada. You may want to verify since I was talking in terms of USDM. Y8 motor would be the Civic Si motor there, I believe?I know your SiR is equal to our Si, so I assume your Si is an EX. This would mean an EX from Canada would have the y7 motor, which is not what you have. I think it's the Canadan EL is equivalent to US EX

Hoping some else will chime in to confirm.

I think you have a y7 block with a y8 head, aka a "mini-me" swap.

Since you mentioned that. My roomie is a mechanic and he said that the car was made in Japan for US market, based on the blue colored vin number that starts with J. Does that change anything?
