Disconnecting freon lines

I am removing my a/c compressor. My question is, when I take out the a/c compressor, should I disconnect the freon lines? Should I disconnect them right at the a/c compressor, or should I disconnect them right under the hood (see the part circled in black below)? Also, will the lines seal automatically when I disconnect them?

Thanks.

Are you removing for good, or replacing? If for good, get the lines out of the bay all together and empty them.

I might put in a new a/c compressor at some point, but right now I'm just taking out the old one. So I might have a use for the lines in the future.

A follow-up question. I took the a/c compressor out, and now my car won't start without a jump. I know the new shorter belt goes to the alternator alone now. Could it be too tight or loose? Any thoughts?

Ahh, that explains it. Just wanted to make sure you didn't go disconnecting them to have oil spill everywhere :P
