Fuel filter change - extra washer

I just installed my new Honda fuel filter on my 97 si (canada)/ex (d16y8) and I realized that my new filter came with 3 washers. It came with 2 larger ones (for the banjo fitting) and 1 smaller one (looks to be about 1/4" inner diameter).

In the 96-00 service manual it says that you are to replace the two banjo washers.

Where does the 3rd, smaller washer that I have left over go?

I've seen before that some parts are manufactured to fit multiple applications. I'm sure that could possibly be the case with that fuel filter. Maybe some other Honda vehicle needs that 3rd washer so they just toss it in there.

Some other Hondas have a pressure relief valve in the top bolt on the filter. It's a smaller 10mm bolt that you remove to release the pressure in the fuel system before changing the filter. It is not needed on the Civic, so like everyone else said, just toss the extra washer.
