Is the ATF level low?

CEL codes?

Transmission fluid is red, so if it's black, it's oil from the engine. Try changing your transmission fluid or check the fluid level like RonJ said. The transmission relies on the fluid to shift using the torque converter and the fluid gets old over time and needs to be changed. If the shifting isn't too bad, changing the fluid could remedy it, however, it could be something worse.
