Hello guys,

I will move to Boston in August and I am looking for a reliable and affordable car.

My budget is around $10000 - $13000 and I think 8th gen of civic sedan will fit in that range.

Maybe 9th gen as well? Can you guys share your experience with 8th gen of civic?

Thanks in advance.

Only problem I've ever encountered with an 8th gen personally (well it was actually my friends car since I can't afford one lol) was his auto tranny just dropped and got fully disconnected. Dealership said it was his fault and made him pay for it. I have heard that on manuals the third gear issue where it pops out a lot, or grinds a lot. Since I don't have first hand knowledge of the car, here are some links I found:

One and only thing i have heard about them is that there is a tsb for blocks cracking. I dont know if its common or not though.
I personally think they are quite ugly and harder to work on than the 7th gens. Suspension parts are also around double over the 7th gen. But i would think for that money you could get a very, very nice 8th gen or a mid-range 9th gen. Not too familiar with prices in your area though.

actually its somewhat true my friend had a client that had a cracked block. he bought another same stock motor from another donor. the whole front end has to come off and the main plate thats under the wiper cowl needs to be removed then you got just enough room to pull the motor out. took us both about few days to do it since we only worked for few hrs since this was during the winter in a shed with no heating and temp was around 25-34 degrees
