how to eliminate the check engine light on my 92 civic

I recently purchase a 92 civic the guy who sold it to me bought it off his friend who had a clutch kill switch..so now everytime the check engine light is on the car turns on but will not turn over once the light goes away i can hear the fuel pump come on and the car starts with no problem.. i wanna know how to eliminate the check engine light to avoid this issue

The clutch kill switch has nothing to do with the check engine light.

that check light's not coming on during driving, is it? Sounds like it's only during startup (it WILL come on when you turn the key forward, but will go out if there's nothing wrong with the car). If coming on while car is running, need to check the codes. As far as the starting, may be the main relay is starting to go bad.
Do you have a service manual for the car?
