New to Honda's: D16Y8 swap?

I have a 2000 civic ex with d16y8, and the motors bad..a Honda guy told me I can't swap a motor from a 96-98 in my 2000.. He said it has to be from a 99-00 is this true and why.. Thanks

anything 96-00 will be fine as its all OBD2. especially if youre just replacing a Y8 with another Y8 its plug and play.

He's not a "Honda" guy then, he's a wrong guy.
Find another d16y8 from any 96-00 Civic Ex or 96-97 Del Sol Si, as mentioned already, it's plug n play.

"Notaclue" should be the name of the supposed "Honda" guy with whom you spoke. You can swap in multiple motors but keeping it D16Y8 will be the easiest route.

What is actually wrong with your motor and was it the same fool who diagnosed it?

That's why I always ask a second opinion.. Thanks for all your help!! These hondas are starting to grow on me haha
